Chair restoring question

The wife wants me to "fix up" her grandmothers rocking chair. I told her I'd do it if I can get it completely disassembled so that brings up this question......

How do I loosen the glue on the legs and spindles that are still tight? Most are already loose but there are some still tight.

Depending on how old it is it might have had hide glue used on it. That stuff will come apart with moisture, either steam or wrap a damp rag around it for an hour or two. I’m assuming you are going to be refinishing so you don’t have to worry about ruining the existing finish.

bring it to my house for one winter and set it near the woods stove , no mater how much water I boil it dries everything out and glue joints pop loose on chairs

Depending on age some old time woodworkers ( -1890 era) used tiny wood plugs rather than screws to hold the spindles in place, less than 1/8 ", some are friction fit much like an axe handle as well.

Dead blow hammer. Just dont break anything! Make sure the main back supports dont have wedges if they go through the seat, like the wedge you put in a wood maul handle but they are wood.. scrape all the old glue off rungs and out of holes. glue doesnt stick very well to old glue. Dont mix anything up. If its old and hand made everything id different. My dad has been refinishing furniture since 1978. Chairs are a lot of work for what they are worth. Yours is worth something if it was her grandmothers, just take your time.
