So if older engine burn 3 qt oil prettner in 3000 Miles, could it clog a cat up on exhaust manifold an be cause crack on cast iron ? Wonder as it on 4 th manifold , one a year ago from last July , last till winter , had replace in April under warrantee , if happen again, I afraid the truck gonna have be traded , just wonder if that much oil usage could clog up cat?

If the cat gets clogged, the truck will have no power. 4th broken manifold? Are these cheap parts from overseas?

Yes, burning oil can clog a convertor. You didn't here this from me, but just bust out the insides, weld the crack, and hope for the best.

What loosegoose said. It's an old truck, who cares.

Shop say won't work, I just check oil, 530 Mile's on oil change an hardly any oil burn, it happens when get up past 500 on oil change an after 1000 Miles more, I think oil get broke down with more miles

Once upon a time, I could have found the end of the crack, drilled a hole and ground out a place to fill with a copper/nickel rod. Maybe could have brazed it on a bell housing on a tranny or transfer case too if I could burn all of the oil out.
Those skills perishable and my eyes don't focus as well anymore.

Doing that here in NY it wouldn't pass the emissions test and would fail your next inspection. I miss the days when you could take the CC out and replace it with a test tube.

Thankfully, we don't have inspections here in Iowa.
And if you're burning that much oil Dave, I think a different truck is in your future anyway

Oil doesn't break down after 500 miles unless you are using vegetable oil. The thing either burns oil or.it doesn't. I have seen vehicle burn oil on long trips and not on short due to heat cycles but not just at certain miles.

Probly as seem burn it more at times than others, all the cracks appear in same spot, on one spot on cat where go manifold , hope don't happen anytime soon as if does, it be goodbye, still not much oil burn until more miles after oil change, has be oil get more used an broken down, lots ppl around that rarely or never change oil , wouldn't want but there vechile, should be change more often then they recommend , especialy motor oil an auto trans fluid 2 ND important

I don't believe your catalytic converter is going to clog. Your catalytic converter may get stolen or something.

I can't imagine someone be low enough to crawl under ur vechile an use a tiger saw to get cat, who would buy it ? Know it stolen ? An pay much ?

I notice in passenger side seat inside on floorboards in certain spots an on bolts go thru metal frame on floorboards that hold seat in place, hot , I know it get hot an exhaust shield above pipe on underside , I believe hotest spot was above reasonater, a lil hot but get pretty hot to touch, is that normal ? Runs good, I thinking more miles on truck an that way it is

No just wonder when others add oil to motor on how low oil got be to add to

Re: Motor question - 09/20/21 12:47 AM

Look at the oil stick. If it is below the add oil mark, you need to add oil.

FYI, I add oil when I do an oil change. Other than that, I drive until it’s time for an oil change.

Re: Motor question - 09/20/21 12:50 AM

How much it burns/leaks depends on how often you'll need to check the oil. Maybe once a week, maybe once a day. If the dipstick shows it's low, add however much it says to add. Don't want to mess around and run it down too low for sure.

That’s using common sense Angela, can’t do that here.

Broken motor mounts cause cracked manifolds.
That is the third time I have told you.
Have the motor mounts been checked?
Don't get hurt, hire a pro.

Re: Motor question - 09/20/21 01:41 AM

Motor mounts are not broke , I thought add no less than 1/4 an quit feed it oil a lil at time an maybe not burn as much , I think mechanics say only add if half qt low ? My dipstick always reads higher on one side than other, at 5 qts after sit 20 min, when full it goes up above top cross hatch area on 1 side an barely not quite top cross hatch area on other side , it is lil below that reading now after add 1/4 qt
