Yep it is crazy, because most tribes have their own medical facilities, and their DR's are tribe related. The tribes are no different than anyone else, create the problem, then blame everyone else.

75 million is peanuts to a drug company.
It would be the equivalent of a bout 50 cents out of my pocket.

Most adult Americans have taken prescription opiods. In just the last two years, even after opiods have been prescribed less, 32% of adult Americans have taken opiods.

https://www.norc.org/NewsEventsPubl...-prescription-in-the-past-two-years.aspx

Traditionally, only 1% of those Americans have been addicted to opiods. Now that money is being given out, 5% of those Americans claimed to have misused opiods. That's still a very small percentage of opiod users.

https://www.psychiatry.org/newsroom/news-releases/nearly-one-in-three-people-know-someone-addicted-to-opioids-more-than-half-of-millennials-believe-it-is-easy-to-get-illegal-opioids#:~:text=Five%20percent%20of%20U.S.%20adults,to%20talk%20about%20the%20problem.

I don't see why companies should be liable if a tiny percentage of defective human beings, who lack self control, misuse their products.

We don't hold alcohol, marijuana and tobacco companies liable in most cases.

Yes, Boco it is. But, that does not make it right. I understand the drug companies are somewhat at fault, because of the fact that they were giving DR's a lot of free samples, and in some cases kick backs. However, a lot of DR's are at fault for over prescribing, and they should be held accountable. The patients should be held accountable because they abused the drug. (DR. prescribed one, so I'll take two)., or I won't swallow it. I'll crush it and snort it).
EX: My wife had a wisdom tooth extracted, she was prescribed (3) 30 day supplies of an opioid, at the max. dose. When she told him, she didn't need that many, only one, the dentist told her maybe she'll need them down the road. Needless to say he is not practicing today.

It is just like the tribes got in on tobacco lawsuit. But guess who has cigs. in all their stores, casinos? They have gotten a lot of $ for alcohol
abuse, but guess where all the locals go to buy their booze, or to get their drinks?

They have gotten a lot of $ for opioid abuse, and guess who prescribed the drug, there own doctors.

So I guess it is all right to accept money for bad behavior, by all parties involved.

Ryan: It is not about pushing back, it is about creating your own problem, then expect everyone else to pay for it. You talk about greedy pharm companies, but who do you think has oversight on them. (the people who have been elected to represent us) I have been hearing about lower drug prices for over 20 years, and not one darn thing has been done.

They seem to get to double dip into tax paid funds. I suppose they pay county property tax, or do they? Do they pay state income taxes?

A lot of stated did the same thing its not just the natives. The Opioid drug companies lied about the addiction potential and made billions they should pay. They hooked and killed a lot of people, no different than the tobaccos companies. There is a case of making a mistake and another case of giving lies and bad information that will kill people.

The addiction potential is 1%. Opiods help the other 99% of people who take them, without issues, which is why they were prescribed to 32% of American adults over the last 2 years, even with all the bad press. Overall, opiods are very safe, compared to virtually any other commonly used drug.

Don't these drugs need to be prescribed by a doctor? You'd have to be a moron not to know the potential danger.

Exactly.
Who wrote the prescriptions?
I kind of vaguely remember oxy contin being touted as a less addictive alternative to to the existing opiates.
It apparently wasn't.

That's right, to the tune of 26 billion.

Keith I'm not buying the 1 percent figure.

Opioids are overprescribed in this country and the marketing by the big drug companies to the doctors was way over the top. My dentist tried to give me opioids when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. It made no sense and I turned it down, a couple of Tylenol a day is good enough. Opioids for a common broken bone. Why? When I was a kid we got by fine without it.

It was obvious to anyone that wanted to look that there were some things hinky going on and the drug companies ignored it. Like certain areas of the country using way more opioids than others.

Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex, but I suspect that the medical industrial complex has been more costly in terms of both money and lives lost.

Were does gun lobby money go?

I guess we should get on board with it being gun manufacturers fault for the misuse of firearms or gun owners for not securing their guns.

Let the suing begin.
