Wife Shot a Moose - 10/04/21 05:32 AM

She wasn't even planning to hunt that evening. Not too bad for never shooting my rifle before.

Most American families go out for ice cream. You guys go out for a real dinner vacation. Excellent video. You are a fortunate man.

Indeed I will. Funny thing! One o the nurses in the hospital after he was born was named Ruth. She uncovered his feet when getting a blood sample. What are the chances!?

Kids can be great entertainment!

Not sure what you mean? We have to cut the antler with the permit we get. Also moose antlers take up a lot of space and selling them helps cover the gas money to hunt.

Way cool! Maybe the antlers weren't "huge" but I bet the body was. That was a mature bull judging from the antlers. Was he still fat? Did he smell? Has the river been that high all season?
How many of the 4 shots hit? Could you tell?
I'm surprised the youngest didn't cry with all the shooting. Maybe gonna be a tough kid!

He was fat and barely smelled. Those we shared with mentioned how good of shape he was in. We were drifting the are because I smelled moose. First I just spotted a cow and then one of the girls said, "There's a bull too!" First two shots hit lungs, and one of the other two shot hit a little further back but avoided puncturing anything that could of caused problems. River barely started to drop late in the season but we were done. Dropped a lot now. Pulled the boat today.

Real great family stuff. Q. Meat hunter myself and so antlers no big deal and rather a cow if a choice. Antlers an important thing to some people though and fair enough. What's with required cutting a piece off the antler to turn in to satisfy the regs.? Can imagine that ticks off the people who like their antlers.

So how far was the shot and what was she using?

It doesn't hurt as much when you know going in that you will have to cut the antler. Many moose hunts are draw hunts, but for rural residents we can get a moose permit (any bull) over the counter for our area but the trophy value must be destroyed. Most local hunters are meat hunters and only care about the size of the antlers when it comes to selling them.

Started off at 80 yards broadside and then moved to about 100 angling away through the brush. We both have 30-06's but she didn't bring hers so she borrowed mine (which she had never shot before).
