Up and down here, there are times we barely had enough 20's to keep up with breaking hundreds, then there are times the drawer barely has more cash in it then what we opened with.

I'm a cash all the way guy. Some things I have to pay with debit but if I'm standing at the counter I'm using cash.

Sadly it seems opposite around here. Lots of gas stations have started not accepting cash at all. The kids tell me several fast food places won’t take bills over $10 or any cash after X time in the afternoon. It’s bad enough even with the till telling the cashier what change to give back, they have a hard time or can’t even count to the number on their read out. I’ve had checkers tell me to step out of the way, using cash would take to much time and they needed to clear their lines so I left.

I say it a lot but I don’t understand what our world is coming too.

Cash will be king again if they start sticking their noses in people bank accounts over $600 deposits.

Some places won't take 100s or 50s and don't like coins for change. One place last week shrugged off 30 cents.
Walmart has separate self checkouts for cash and cards.

the walmart card self checkouts video you and then match the facial recognition to the card/id. The govt has facial recognition on almost everyone....

I actually rarely use cash but I'll raise all kinds of heck if someone tells me they will not accept legal tender.

Actually cash is on its way out. Cashless society is what they are clamoring for. All digital. So they can control everything and will only allow you to spend it on what they feel is socially acceptable. No guns or ammo for you.

Also when they go to negative interest rates you won’t be able to pull all your cash out of the bank. You’ll only have a digital currency to watch disappear each month as they charge you to keep it in your account.

I use cash when I have it.

I read somewhere years ago that James Penney the founder of JC Penney was kicked off the board after the company went public because he opposed credit cards. He said it was tricking people into spending money they didn’t have. Smart man!

Don’t use a debit, but use credit card for everything. We use the point for airline and hotel stays.

Pay bill in full each month.

I've seen young people drop almost a dollars worth of change in the penny tray because they don't want it in their pockets.

Re: Cash and carry society? - 10/09/21 05:11 PM

I roll up and cash in all my change from using cash all the time.
Before the covid shutdowns I was rolling about $400 every 3 or 4 months.
Doesnt take too many loonies and twonies to add up.

Same here.

I can't recall the last time I used cash. It has to be several years ago

Cash is filthy! Not just germs ie:Covid, but 90 some % of $20 bills are soaked in cocaine. CC's are pretty quick and you get a pittance of cash back. Most stores were begging for coins, try paying with it tho! They look at you like you shoved a pistol in their face.

I wouldn’t care if it was covered in skunk juice, I still carry it, hoard it and love counting it. grin

Also covid isn’t transferred on surfaces, so no worry there.

Regarding facial recognition, our driver's license and passports are government records.
Some airports have devices in the customs area that you put your passport in picture side down, a camera takes a picture of you, and a computer confirms that you are the person in the passport. All this is done without an employee or language problem.

Re: Cash and carry society? - 10/09/21 08:46 PM

If one manages one's finances well what difference does it really make to use a card versus cash? If you spend less because you use a $20 bill instead of a card then managing finances has not taken place. If I were the owner or manager of several convenience stores I would hope most would not pay with cash, especially as many feel the employees are not competent, as we read post after post here.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but we see a lot of 20 bills at the farmers market Reason-that’s what is dispensed from ATM’s.
