Ramen noodle hacks - 10/13/21 08:51 PM
Anyone got a good one they like for making their ramen a Lil better ? So far this is the best I've come up with. Rea do the both , two soft piled eggs sliced up spinach, lil green onions and some random cheap beef medium rare.

Soy sauce pepperoni mixed in a cup with the noodles and a piece of white cheddar over the top to melt down is a favorite too

Throw in some potato flakes to thicken things up a little. That is an old backpacking "hack".

Personally not into runny egg yolks, but the rest of it looks good.

The 'plating' is top notch, Chef Wolfie. Patrice would be proud.

Even 'Po Folks' can eat well, with a little creativity.

Boil ramen minus the seasoning until just done or a little under cooked, strain and throw into a skillet, stir fry with eggs and anything else that sounds good at the moment.

Substitute Ramen for any Asian Recipe that involves noodles or add some fish, oyster or soy sauce, and garlic for flavor. :-)

I cook 2 packs of shrimp flavored ramen noodles with half the normal amount of water. I cook 1 pound of peeled and tailless shrimp and 1 pound of scallops, in lots of butter and add it to the noodles. I then add in 8 ounces of frozen peas. I then add a lot of parmesean cheese, some pepper and a little Slap Your Mama.

Ramen noodles, snake meat and a can of button 'Shrooms.
by the way I hate the modern use of the word hack in everything
a Hack is an idiot or someone poor at the task or job
to hack at something is to crudely chop it
to hack a computer is to gain illegal access
so why is hack suddenly trying to be a good thing
Wolf your cooking skills are clearly way beyond Ramen and Ramen isn't even a cheap carb when you compare it to bulk rice or a pound of dry noodles.
rant over
I have a ex con working for me, he showed me a "hack" or call it a hot twist for your Ramen Noodles. Un wrap gently, put the square of uncooked noodles in a toaster, browning them to taste. Then cooking in the normal manner. Give it a try, I liked it, for the half dozen times a year I eat Ramen Noodles.

I do something similar. I drop an egg into the broth, it cooks instantly. I also like to add a beef bone with marrow in it, in the broth. Chopped green onions and some carrot slivers are a nice addition.

One pack of beef ramon noodles, boil as instructions say. Add a handful of mixed frozen vegetables and a half pint of canned venison, beaver or beef and boil til hot. You can add some shredded Swiss cheese if you like but this is a quick and easy meal.

... it’s getting a little too Shawshank redemption in here ... I didn’t know ramen noodles had any culinary legitimacy outside of the big house

My wife basically buys ramen noodles with $.50 worth of veggies from the freezer section in a fancy container for $5. Insert eye roll here….and pick your battles.

I thought you were well versed in the currency of incarceration?? Lol You can get anything in jail with a case of Ramen noodles....
Fancy plating seems gay to me. Could care less about that I just wanna eat.

Hacking as it relates to computer was never a bad term until the media corrupted it. Cracking was the term used for illegal access to computers. Hacking was diving down inside a computer to make it better.

Big difference between real ramen noodles and the "heart attacks in a bag" stuff we have here. If you ever go to a real Japanese ramen restaurant you'll see the difference.

How much time has Savell done in the big house?
More importantly... How would you cook the ramen unless you getting the Goodfellas tteatmt?
Well, ive eaten ramen noodles in china and philippines and they really werent much different and the chinese are noodle kings. Go to a restaurant in China and see how many noodles they consume.

Re: Ramen noodle hacks - 10/14/21 12:56 PM
The difference is the broth and other ingredients. The stuff most of us are familiar with just have what is basically powdered bullion cubes. Though I think the stuff we get the noodles are fried before packaging. The noodles themselves are just wheat noodles.
We eat the same noodles in the packs in asia,,occasionally we add something else. Most noodles in Asia are rice noodles, rice is a must have in Asia. Thus the ultra high diabetes levels. Wheat in asia is known as mien,,hard to come by in asia.
To the chicken ramen, I like to add chunks of cooked chicken with chopped green onions and bell peppers. For the beef ramen, We will add some sliced deer/beef loin or roast deer/beef, basil, cherry tomato halves, and onions.
Just an FYI: talking about the "big house," Very few inmates actually use any or all of the season packet. They often steal stuff from food service and make their own seasonings and additions (the stuff they can't get on commissary). Common to see bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, chicken, fish, roast beast, & anything else they can lift. As for cooking it, at least in the Feds, they are provided with community hot water faucets, and industrial microwaves in the common areas of the units. Some state facilities allow vics to purchase hot pots. The real crafty ones make "stingers" for cooking food and brewing hooch.

GreenCounty Pete..... you forgot the great Johnny Cash lyric, "... you're the dirty hack that shot your woman down..."
West River.... Sorry, but how food looks on the plate does matter. Same as how a gal is dressed or if a gun is cleaned before you buy it. JMO.
Ramen noodles are great and easy when you're hungry, but they have about zero nutritional value compared to regular pasta. That said, I like mine cooked with some frozen peas and an egg thrown in at the last minute then all stirred up. Too much salt and MSG in the seasoning packet so I just put on some chili sauce.

yeah well I just can't hack the noodles any more I think it was apples making my numbers too high and I was trying to only eat one.
I keep getting the feeling I wasn't built for this century , body runs to "efficiently" if you eat the cereal grains you also need to be pushing a cart 50km a day of following a mule all day plowing or out howing corn all day or something where you work it off.
shame the American heart association has been pushing cereal grains for so long , but it keeps them in business I guess.

Depending on the institution you can have a hot pot in your cell, cafeteria or day room will have microwaves. Some just let the noodles soak to soften and then eat them cold.

These Roman noodles are something I've never eaten. My wife makes them for herself I think ( orange package and stinks when she boils them?) So some day I'm gonna have to try them.

You're not really missing anything. Just a simple cheap ($0.15) meal with simple flavor and easy to add fixings.

Got alot of my extended family to eat wild game because it was plated nicely, they point blank said may time a they wouldn't have tried it if it didn't look the way it did.
