When I was 15 my dad asked me to go golfing on a Saturday during archery season. I asked him when he came out of the closet.

I love to golf! Not good at it, but a day at the course is always"relaxing" lol

Re: Golf!!! - 10/16/21 04:20 AM

I tried it a few times once in high school played all of one match

tried it again golfing with my father in law about 15 years ago I think I enjoyed chipping wooffel balls in the front yard with the kids more than actually playing golf

conclusion , a golf course is a waste what could be an awesome rifle range

I play once a month or so here with my neighbor. Where we used to live there were lots of great courses. Not so many here, but also fewer people so it is easier to get on and much less crowded on the course.

Good book on golf called "A Great Walk Spoiled".

“Relaxing”…Isn’t that the truth! I play enough that I should be good or at least getting better but I’m not. The Frostbite Open is tomorrow. Last tourney of the season…typically involves lots of Fireball and not much for low scores.

If I have time to golf, I have time to go fishing. Or about anything else.

Used to work at a course in high school just so I could get out of school early. Only time I golfed was at a driving range. First swing and my club flew 50 yds.

I love golf. If it weren't for golf there would be a million other guys trying to hunt, fish and trap.

My Dad had lots of Trophy from Golf league....I thought it was cool because he was a 1 armed golfer. Polio wrecked his right arm.

So I went with Dad, then joined Golf league at School ...it was the thing to do to make Dad proud but after I got married in 85 . I Quit golfing to Beaver Trap.

I have thought about trying golf. So far I have been able to resist the urge to hit a harmless ball with a big club then go look for it.

Re: Golf!!! - 10/16/21 12:17 PM

I now golf maybe twice a year in tournaments. I started when I was 30 or so when a friend talked me into it. I eventually shared that same talk with my father when he retired and the two of us talked one of his brothers into it when he retired. Neither of them were “sportsman” and while they enjoyed listening to hunting, fishing and trapping stories, they just weren’t interested in tagging a long in those days. His brother passed a few years later from lung cancer. It would be hard for me to trade any of those moments and memories we spent together on the course.

I golfed once a week in our Senior League for 20 years. I got fairly good at it considering I never took a lesson or practiced. Never took it seriously. I did it for the camaraderie more than anything. Bunch of geezers solving world problems every Wed. morning. Quit last year after my partner got spinal cancer and couldn't do it anymore.

I am neither old or bored enough to give golf a thought. I had a VW golf for a little while and didn't like that either.
The whole point to golf is to play as little as possible to win.
I don't play at all so should by rights turn pro.

I'm a golfer until October. I golf three to four days a week. I push my golfcart. I put in 6 to 7 miles each time. Keeps me fit for the important stuff.

No interest to golf in my lifetime. Too many other outdoor things to do that I enjoy better. I use to shoot at golf balls at a distance with my .22 cal. years back for entertainment. They sure can take off with a good hit.

I had to quit when my back got bad with arthritis and I can’t swing right, I was never really good at it but I was good at drinking beer and bs with my friends that couldn’t fish. smile

Spent 16 years as maintenance director/construction manager at a pretty high end golf property in Northern Mi. called Forest Dunes. Over saw the logging, land clearing and construction for two of the three courses on that property. Only golf balls I hit were with course designers on raw sand. They do that daily while shaping a new course while placing hazards. Left that gig two years ago.

We had a fairly rough showing yesterday at our 4man scramble tourney. After 4 poor tee shots, we were 246 from the green and I proceeded to drain the next shot for an eagle. It was pretty cool! I think my team and opposing team(another group of friends) were more excited than I was. LOL!
