Got done combining - 10/17/21 10:38 PM

We finished up combining corn today so all the crop is out, and now the dozer work begins, anyone else finishing up or how’s it going.

Southern Iowa...? What is "dozer work"...?

Re: Got done combining - 10/17/21 11:05 PM

Northern Iowa about 70 miles north of Des monies, dozer work is fixing waterways, tree removal, and I’ve got some fences I need to knife the dirt away from.

400 left then 136 of milo. Hopefully tomorrow we can roll again. First thing in the morning I have to deal with this sick bagging man stretched this one a bit to much. Cold weather split it.

Will that store like that at 16%?

Re: Got done combining - 10/17/21 11:43 PM

Thank you Gary, Pawnee that looks like a mess some guys tried that here a few years back but we don’t have the weather for those bags full of grain usually it’s too wet then it gets to cold and they froze solid or the ones that didn’t the corn looked bad coming out of it, possum63 from here to fort dodge there is still a lot in the field which is odd usually they are done over west before us.

Re: Got done combining - 10/17/21 11:43 PM

Yes Gary. We try to keep it 18% and under. 16 is perfect

Re: Got done combining - 10/17/21 11:44 PM

This year in SE Nebr the beans weren't ready yet so the corn got picked first then the beans afterwards. Odd year.

There are tricks to it and we learn something every year. No air is the key and constant coon patrol is a must. I’m going to have to call the warden in the morning because a family group is hitting a bag hard. I’ll be breaking the Duke cage traps out early this year. I’ve got 300k bushel bagged now and praying the coons and hail storms stay away

Re: Got done combining - 10/17/21 11:56 PM

Coons would wreak havoc on a bag, here the threat of hail is pretty well past but we can still get it.

I saw a lot of roadkilled coon today. I suppose the corn getting cut has them all shook up.

Almost all of the beans are down in my part of Ohio and most of the corn is still standing. Yield is up and prices are dropping some.

Still a lot of corn here standing

Re: Got done combining - 10/19/21 10:40 PM

Corn has been going out decent here still some beans, I heard today that Illinois had pollination problems and the corn isn’t yielding as good as they thought, we had very good yields and we are still in a bad drought but we had just enough rain at the right times that made the difference 10miles either way and it’s not pretty.

Done and done here. Somebody is going to be rich (prolly the banker) not me however.

I tell my banker that he is the only one making money.

I wish I could trade cows for anhydrous. I could make others more rich.

Re: Got done combining - 10/19/21 10:49 PM

Most of the beans are out in NE South Dakota but very wet ground now and some are adding tracks to combines to keep going. Corn well underway. Farmers I speak with say the crops are the best they have ever raised. Very short moisture early but lots since early-mid July.

Down? or has been harvested? Down beans don't sound good atall.

Re: Got done combining - 10/19/21 11:09 PM

Both cattle and smoke are outrageous, here it’s so dry I’m having trouble digging with the dozer I’m going to try different bits to try and engage the ground better, I didn’t realize kieth said that the beans were down that sucks.

Still harvesting in central and southern Iowa
Numbers look good, price is not to bad until you factor fuel.

Re: Got done combining - 10/20/21 12:21 AM

Finished beans up over a week ago. Cranking out the corn. Yields all great. Dealing with breakdowns almost daily. Got a great crew and we fix em right and quick...they just keep coming. Had more trouble with semis this year than than ever. Rear end went on one. Computer is acting up on another. Tarps are constantly needing a rope or insert. Clutch went out on combine feeder house drive. Bearings went out on corn head drive. Shield under throat had a hole wore thru. And finally steering pump went on the cart tractor...still no parts in. Had one small fire in engine compartment during beans. Longest work day was 20 hours so far....hopefully that wins it. Got about 250 /a corn to go and stick a fork in it.

Down = harvested = cut = picked.

Re: Got done combining - 10/20/21 10:50 PM

Starting back Friday for farmer to get the rest of his beans out that we left 3 weeks ago. Got about 350 acres of replanted beans thanks to an overnight 10 inch rain. Taking a break from my pecan harvest to finish him up. Still have 4-5 days left of that to get me in the dry. Any you boys checked on fertilizer prices lately? Give you a little hint. You ain’t gonna like it!!!

How's the ditch parrot population looking up that way?? That ice/snow/ice we got in January-February pretty much eliminated our quail it seems.

Re: Got done combining - 10/23/21 12:00 AM

Well that’s better than what I thought Keith, yeah tomahawker that sounds like us a year ago I had 200 yards left and the bearing went out on the idler for the propulsion pump 4 hours later we finished the season, yeah white trash it doesn’t look good for next year, btomlin our population is really good we’ve been fortunate and haven’t had any ice for awhile.
