Colony trap ? - 11/18/21 08:36 PM

While on an out of state trapping trip last year something kept taking our colony traps out of the creek and on to land. Any ideas?

Coon? Did they have muskrat in them? Were they shiny? Were they placed nicely on shore or just dropped any which way? Hard to say without seeing the aftermath.

Beaver will do this. Some beaver like to keep their runs clean.

It's probably coon doing It. I doubt If a mink would be strong enough to haul a colony trap up on the bank.

I have several colony traps hauled up on the bank during rat season and some of them have been 10 yards from the stream bank. and the rats Inside were stripped of all their meat.

I've watched mink steal rats out of the inside of colony traps. Coon normally drag them onto shore and try and fish the rats out. Not uncommon in coon areas.

Coons luv to steal shallow run rats, I've had otters drag out deep water colony traps.

Minnesota= river otter
( since they are so heavily protected there)
a 330 guarding them in the sides would have told you.
