1 package standard loaf of frozen garlic bread
1 kelbasi

Heat up kelbasi , toast/heat up garlic bread per instructions (10-12mins?)

Assemble mega huge 'hot dog'
Feeds 2 very hungry people , 3-4 not so hungry people. The flavors of the garlic bread and kelbasi go very well with each other.

Cost from Aldi's , about $4 for both.

Cube a couple boneless chicken breasts or boneless pork loin chops and brown and cook half way through in a skillet. Dump in a jar of sweet and sour sauce or orange sauce and simmer for about 10 minutes. Can add some canned pineapple chunks when you add the sauce if you want. Serve over white rice.

Tacos or spicy maid rites,
Brown some ground meat, add a big can of diced chilies, onion, some chili powder, use ketchup as a binder so the amount varies, one variation is to use enchilada sauce then add tomatoe paste instead of ketchup.

Large dice vegetables from the garden. Whatever you got. Cook up any meat you got in a big fry pan. Brown it well in some vegetable oil. Take it out, toss in veggies and cook till just done. Toss in meat with some butter and heat together for a bit. Salt and pepper and serve. We call it veggie surprise.

season and brown venison/beef cubes (cut into 1/2" pieces).

pressure cook in Insta-Pot (or similar) to tenderize, using chicken broth as liquid.

release pressure and add a box of Quick Barley and enough chicken broth (while barley cooks); to make a thick, stew-like consistency.

Salt & pepper.

serve.

Enjoy!

Get you some cheap semi fatty beef on clearance. Cook medium rare like you would a steak. Boil two eggs for 4min for soft boiled ramen eggs. Thinly slice up a few decent sized spinach leaves so they look like noodles. To a bout 3/4-1cup of water add you beef ramen packet, some soy sauce Cayenne pepper , hot sauce some GOOD beef bouillon let it boil. Add you noodles. Cook them down till their al dente. Pour you noodles and broth into you bowl . Add you sliced spinach to one side, thinly slice your beef add it to another and cut you eggs long was make sure to keep as much of the yolk as possible and how ever you wish with a lil soy sauce in the yolk. Slice up some green onion and add to the middle really good really filling and for I can eat this for one meal a day for a few days for less then $15 worth of ingredients. The beef taking up most of that cost. And once you get your beef and a few eggs puree cooked you can make a bowl in like 5min

Re: Cheap and easy food dishes - 11/24/21 02:37 AM

One large bunch collards
1-2 lbs smoked pork neckbones
Quart and a half chicken stock

Wash greens and slice across a stack of leaves into 3/4" strips being sure to include meaty stems, discard the fibrous ends. In a large heavy pot sear the neckbones to release the smoky flavor. Pour over some of the stock to scrape up bits of the seared neckbones. Add greens and remaining stock, bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and let cook 2-3 hours until greens are desired tenderness and meat comes off the bones. Mash down greens and stir from time to time. Serve with hot pepper vinegar available at the table.

1 lb dried black eyed or field peas
1 large yellow onion coarse chopped
1 lb smoked jowl bacon skinned and 1/2" cubed
1 cup parboiled rice

Combine the above in a large crackpot with water to cover. Cook on high 6 hours, monitor water level. When peas are soft season generously with fresh cracked pepper, dash cayenne to taste and salt. Add rice for the last 25 minutes, add water if needed.
Optional prepare rice separately and serve peas over rice.

Go get you some center cut bone in pork chops. Wash em pat dry season well both sides toss in a plastic bag with some flour shake till well coated ,shake off the excess. Get you a cast iron skillet with enough veg oil in the bottom to come up half way on your chops. Get that good nd hot to whwre she starts Poppin . Lay or chops in and let em cook thill there a lil past golden brown on each side. Take em out let them dry on some paper towel. While that's goin down make you a crock pot of brown gravy. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper for veggies . Toss your chops in and forget about em for a few hours. When their done the meat will fall off the bone ! Serve over SE rice or mashed taters. Sould like a lot of work but it's pretty easy. And cheap if you can get a good deal on the chops.

Re: Cheap and easy food dishes - 11/24/21 03:39 AM

Cube some beef or deer meat into bite size chunks. Salt and pepper it. Mix 2 small or one large package of brown gravy mix as per instructions and dump it into crockpot. Throw in your meat chunks. Can add some diced onion if you want. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-8 hours. About a half an hour before you want to eat, take the lid off the crockpot and turn it to high to thicken up the gravy. If it's still not thick enough, mix a heaping tablespoon of cornstarch into a half cup of cold water and dump that in and let it go another 15 minutes or so. Serve over rice, mashed taters, or pasta. If you don't have gravy packets, you can make it by using beef bouillon or beef broth... and increasing the corn starch to 2 T at the end.

Re: Cheap and easy food dishes - 11/24/21 05:11 PM

Eggs are still an awesome and cheap option for meals..some toast and eggs.
Rice and chicken or beef with bag of veggies added and some cream of chicken soup. For change up build any crust over that (biscuits, dough mix, etc) or even mashed potatoes on top makes a great shephards pie.
Hot dogs are still reasonable.
PBJ
Soups
Big loaf of French bread, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, and some.cheese and broil that for great pizza bread.
Lots of cheap meal options when you get creative.

Re: Cheap and easy food dishes - 11/24/21 06:18 PM

both cheap and easy

taking easy to mean quick with minimal prep and cook time

you can cook spaghetti 69 cents a pound and sauce about a buck to 2 bucks a can/jar

add a little olive oil to the noodles after cooking and draining and you can portion it out into containers for lunch and add some sauce your spending some time boiling water , 10 minutes cooking the pasta and your eating a bunch of meals that keep several days int he fridge

if you saute some zucchini while the water is boiling your adding a cheap vegetable to it or add a bag of peas just before the pasta is done cooking.

Re: Cheap and easy food dishes - 11/24/21 07:57 PM

Small can of Herdez salsa
Can of diced & seasoned tomatoes
Small can of corn
Medium onion diced
Some diced jalapeños
Combine and simmer in saucepan.
Ready when onions are cooked to your liking.
Adjust ingredients and amounts with what’s in the cupboard

Chicken noodle soup
Cut off the backs of chickens and freeze along with gizzards and hearts. When you have enough , throw them in a stock pot and cook them down w/carrots, celery, onion, salt ,pepper. Cook off a half bag of egg noodles, rinse and set aside to cool. Pick and clean your chicken then throw the meat back in the pot. Wait for it to cool down and then add back the noodles.

garlic salt , cumin , oregano , chili powder a few bay leaves , turn it on and let it go all day

Sometimes a person eats what he's got, not what he wants!
My Dad told stories about what they ate in The Great Depression. He would climb up into the top of the barn and get squabs out of pigeon nests and his Mother would make squab pie. Get creative. There's hard times coming!

My mom made this too. If you were lucky you pearl dive the little bits ham still left in there. I still make this every so often. But I use small ham or ham steak so has more than sliver meat in it.
