Bobcat flagging - 12/15/21 12:16 AM

First year trying for bobcats and got some flagging to try. Im going on a week trip where im getting lots of bobcat trail cam pics on the regular so im really excited. So id like to rig up some flagging before the trip and womdering how you cat trappers set them up so its an easy set up at the location. I saw one guy use wire to a swivel with a sinker on and off of that some fishing line with the flag? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks guys, so i have the flags im just asking if theres a way to rig them up prior to getting there so its an easy set up and less time at each set. This is private land so not too worried about thieves

I just use a piece of red plastic flagging if I use anything at all. Put the trap where they step (between the rock and the brush), bait it and scent it good, and I think flagging isn't very necessary. [Linked Image]

One problem this year is that there is so much food in the woods they are not that interested in baits. So maybe flagging will become more important than usual. I have trail cameras out and they hit the bait one time then dont show up for a few days, one even came close to the bait but walked right on by. So try everything, basic dirt hole, trail sets (more than one if you get a none intended animal it will act as a lure) pee sets and anchor for coyote as they will investigate you sets too......jk

For a cat set location attractor I use a 4X6 inch piece cardboard, brown on one side and white on the other. When fluttering in a breeze the white stands out against the dark forest cover background and the brown against the snow, like a flashing neon sign. This flasher is place about 5-10 feet out side the cubby where it can be seen from several long distance directions within hare activity areas.

Once a lynx comes to the flashing attractor it seldom passes by without investigating the scented cubby. Although it may not enter the cubby, due to lack of bait, the cat will often be caught in a snare hung in tight spots around the cubby. I would think this would also work for bobcat. [Linked Image]
