Bulk washers for Pogo's ? - 12/24/21 03:36 AM

Anyone got a link to a good site to buy some laugher size washers for pogo anchor? Need something that would be good for anchoring in beaver swamps and the like.
Thanks !!

I bought bulk pogo washers at Fastenal years ago. I can’t remember the $$. I would carry some with just the j hook in for real deep soft stuff on stake end of drowning rod. I twist heavy wire right from spool on pogo J, then drive as far as it will go, spooling out wire as it goes down. When you get to the depth you want , cut wire with enough tag to wire to top end of drowning rod.

Amazon has them $20 for 100 Amazon

I tried some in soupy mud. Getting the rivet through and shut was the worst part. They will hold if get them in deep enough.

Don;t know if 2 inch square hydro line washers would suit., talk to any hydro lineman, you know . Lots of them get thrown away, as well as cross arm brace irons . Would make excellent stakes. old243

I recall seeing the cycle bar teeth being brought up as a good option if there are abandoned mower bars in the woods and scrap piles might be a cheap/free source

I have wondered but never tried it , sections of Tpost about 3-4 inches long

I have some places that have taken out old fences and replaced the bent t-posts just go in the scrap steel pile , I have actually gotten a bunch of strait ones for my wood piles even

cut some sections angled 45* on one end square on the other , drill a hole 1/3 back from the point in the vertical part of the T attach cable, weld up a driver

Get yourself a holesaw in the size you want and make your own from junk car body parts and such.

You won't make them in bulk this way tho.

I met guy once was using half in conduit about 4-6 inches long with swivel in middle. Shoved them in the mud bottom with pole had end on it fit inside the conduit. Said never had beaver pull one out. So guy can use anything easy to drive that turns sideways when pull on it.. don't have to be washers.

Looks like If you set them In deep water your going to be leaving lots of cable or wire behind when you can't pull them.

Re: Bulk washers for Pogo's ? - 12/24/21 05:30 PM

yes fender washers
we still have a hardware store that sell bulk by the pound when I go in and need just a few of something small like some little screws the scale only goes down to 1/8 pound so no matter what it costs that so I grab a few of something else to make sure I get my monies worth

it can go in my parts bin at home

look for places that sell by weight

if not this was about the lowest price I could find https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-4-...ated-Standard-SAE-Fender-Washers/3050667

1.34 a four pack makes it 33.5 cents each but you can only get to 1 1/2 inch outside diameter

Agri-Supply sells them in bulk. I have bought hundreds there over the years. Cant remember price per pound, but using 15" of 3/32 7×7 cable, two 3/32" double ferrules and one 30penny nail for the jhook...I have less than $20/hundred in em.

Please, please, please, when you buy bulk waters for pogos be sure to test fit each one before you rig one up with rivet and cable to your trap. Not all washers in the box will be of the exact same thickness, and they won't all for the slot in end of the pogo driver either. Evidently tolerances for washer thickness is not an issue?
I have tried several different sources and learned from someone on here to test each and every one of them out of the box. I am not kidding when I state that a surprising amount of them will be too thick for the driver slot.
I have a container just for washers that didn't make the grade, so to speak, and will get used for other projects around here.

I make my own drivers with wide slots. Washer thickness not an issue. Sticking driver not an issue either.

This is correct. In my experience at least 10%-15% will be too thick. I do a “slot test” as well before i start making the stakes. With the driver in a vise and a container under the slotted end, I just drop the washer through the slot, not pushed or fed through the slot, dropped through! If any stick or even drop through a bit sluggishly, they don’t make the grade for pogos use.

Use to deliver boxes made for a punch manufacture Ancast and they have different grades of steel that they made the washers from.
It was interesting a tour of their plant. A large sheet of steel has 500 holes punched in one press with the centers punched out in one press.
The holly sheet gets melted into cast material within 5 minutes.
The crates were pallet size and 18-22.5 inches tall and were filled up in a 4 hour shift

I can see that cold rolled would have different thicknesses

Try farm stores for fender washers. Be particular. They cone in different thicknesses.
I talked to Pogo at a recent get together. You can buy them from him.

Just get 'em from schmitts. You want the ones with the rivet pre-placed unless you're bending nails for a rivet. Trying to get a factory rivet into a 2" fender washer will make you crazy.

I got mine from ZIEGLER BOLT AND NUT
Lot cheaper than the ones posted on here .

Use pliers to hold them on a gap in vice jaws , and practice , works good enough for me , wit factory j hooks .

The 2" pogos from Smitts are 42 cents each. I'm sure I'd spend 3/4 of that on parts to make them.

That's right, just open the J-hook a little, it's easy to do. Here's a short video I made this morning showing how I do it.
