Mink foothold question - 12/29/21 07:01 PM

If can't be easily done at 1 foothold trap place or indentation in bank an kinda a pocket, is 3 inches to trap pan to deep for lot mink if deeper water up to pocket so mink is swimming ? I have got them in at least 3 plus inch deep water to trap pan by hind feet , in deeper water I think catch most by hind foot ?

Lay a flat stone under your trap.

No more then 1" of water over my mink sets same when trapping rats.
Seems like a rock under your trap would make It pretty unsteady.

Ideally a inch or inch an half, yes, I have got in water maybe 6 inch deep on rare occasion an 1 this season by both back feet at 4 inches plus, I have only 1 foothold set as of yesterday start today an few connibears in place where not freeze easy but way bank is, an bottom an freezing now, hard bring in soil for bed, I don't usually use rocks under trap , just set it sun in almost darkness, I thi k water maybe a little high now to since yesterday, the fish bait has not been tamper with an using regular mink gland lure, it is on a slider, maybe if nothing next week an get warmer a little, make fish head set

That'd be a crapshoot here.Water is up and down often a foot or more every day or two in the fall until tight freeze up.

Yes, a big chunk of sod flipped over on top of a rock works very well because the roots help hold the trap steady.

Yep, a tile spade and a sod are a Mink trappers friend. i want minimal water over pan unless I expect dropping water.
