Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 05:21 AM

It rained on Christmas so most of our snow melted. Its nice and hard now after cooling off. Like walking on concrete. It's been around -15 f but has warmed up to a few above during the day.

Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 06:51 AM

Moscow Hide & Fur is paying $16.00 to $18.00 a pound for #1 brown moose antler. I assume those are fresh sheds that haven’t been mouse chewed.

I’m thinking those antlers will lose a couple of pounds when they get dried out.

Wow that's pretty good. Thanks for the info. Yes these are fresh grade A not fox chewed. I think I will go back out tomorrow. Money laying in the woods.

Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 07:31 AM

The catch is - those prices are paid at their warehouse in Moscow, Idaho. Moose antlers are a pain in the real end to ship and expensive.

Good Luck on finding more tomorrow.

Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 07:40 AM

Yea thats the deal with salmon too. 60 cents a lb here and $16 a lb in Anchorage. I am out in the bush so that adds cost to get them to Anchorage.

Thanks again.

Great set Yukon, those are beauties. We’ve scooped 27 whitetail sheds so far, but I’d take that set over all of them.

Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 01:12 PM

Looks like you found them close together. Have found 3 sets moose sheds over the years and in each case the antlers were within 100 yds. Seems they loose both at about the same time so if you find one start looking as the other is probably not far.

Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 02:00 PM

Don't want to hijack the thread but these are two moose sheds I found side by side. I think they may be the same bull moose but from two different years. He must have dropped them where he likes to bed.

Re: Shed Huntng - 01/06/22 02:57 PM

Looks like lower 48 prices are down?I swear Peskas was paying about $20 a lb for brown moose antlers last time I looked? I have a few in a stack, but the shed business died two years ago when I found 11 dead ( deep snow killed) moose within a half mile of the house. frown

Now they are quoting $11to $13 for brown moose.
