One proud papa - 01/08/22 11:04 PM

Took my son rabbit hunting for his first time actually hunting.
The picture says it all. It's a tie between my father in law and me as to who is happier.

Good job young man...
Got to agree with Danny about cotton tails being one best eating critters out there. Actually killed so many one winter when I was a kid. My mom said you can give them poor rabbits a rest. We don't need anymore right now..

Is there an age limit as to when kids can hunt up there or was this the first time he’s showed interest?

Good on you and the young hunter, Fireplug! Lots and lots of memories chasing cottontails with my Dad.

No, his hair is long all over. It bothers my sense of order but if he turns to a mullet, the shears will appear in the night....

Traditionally kids could hunt small game at 12, big game at 14. They lowered the age this year for deer hunting to 12 and he got a 7 point buck and a small doe. He's been interested for years but not legal until now.

My in laws got him and his younger sister lifetime licenses a couple years ago, so he just needs his bowhunter class to be set.

Congrats. Good job dad way to get him going. Keep the pictures of his adventures coming. Nothing better than kids hunting.

But man thats a sad state to live in. Age restrictions on kids hunting what a crock. All my kids were able to kill their first deer at 6-7 and small game before that. I cant believe there are places that limit kids by age. Parents should decide when they are ready not the state. I don't co-parent with the state.

Unfortunately we live in NY. Here in the Finger Lakes as well as the ADK regions are the red-headedstep children of the city. I'd love for NYC to slip into the Atlantic since it and Albany ruin the state.
