•••landowners •••?

Anyone have landowners give permission to every trapper that asks to trap? Even when they have said “yes” already to one or more trappers?
Frustrating to get set up on hot trails and then get very very few animals in return(ex one every 4 days). When previous years have yielded 2-3 animals a day.

Lucky up here. If a landowner is going to allow anyone else the right to trap I move on.

I have found that 'permission' spots for hunting/trapping usually involve some type of drama or bs that just does not make it worth while anymore....but I am in a 100,000+ county between the two largest cities in my state...35 miles each way.

10 years ago it was a different story.

When deer hunting, if a lease changes and an heir has hunted for free, that person will still try to hunt the land after it has been leased to another.

Right wrong or indifferent a land owner can and should be able to do whatever they want on their land as far as who they allow to trap or hunt on their land. If you don’t like what they allow. Have nothing to do with them.

Ide say it's more fusterating to get told no because the son in law said he may trap but then never actually does.

Or you get permission but have to wait until after firearm season for deer, then black powder, then bowhunting and then pheasant. Buy the time you can get onto it, it's late in the season, coyotesare starting to rub, butt deep in snow and your dealing with coyote hunters with dogs who don't bother to ask....

Maybe you shouldn't bother with private ground then...its awful that a landowner would want you to stay off his personal property until he was finished deer hunting !!

I pull up and leave if someone else is trapping. Had a guy come find me in early fall. Wants his place trapped. His son lives there and not him. Son told me to be sure and show him where all my traps were for safety. I havnt been to that farm either. I dont mind waiting till deer season is over. Or not setting by the barn Or other rules a landowner may have. Sometimes though its just not worth it.

Yeah, I have moved on from hunted farms. Newest Lease holders get 1 buck on camera and 100 coyotes they'll still want you off till the last seer season is done. Now with depressed or no fur market, I had a farmer call to ask where I had been. I told him the guys he leased to won't work with me. Past hunters were hard rut hunters, it worked for us, I trapped a week or so before then pulled, then after rut I was back. The hunters hunted, I did midday checks, they often called to let me know if I had one pinched and where. The antler guys plan to shoot coyotes when they see them. Ok have fun. I have scaled back my current trapping to spring beaver, I enjoy it. I have all winter for trap and gear prep. Nice days I icefish or small game hunt. It's a trappers market right now for access just a crap market for our furs. Also a great time to snap up deals on used gear. The gear I buy cheap may always be cheap, but if fur does ever go up, I will have gear.

Several years ago had a property that I had trapped several year nobody else trapped it then one year 4 others trap. They all had permission so I just stayed away.

Public ground around here is very limited and what little there is has way too much public traffic and causes other issues. Most LO's don't understand what trappers are up against.

I like when the neighbor treats the ground as his own. Got confronted by a middle aged dude who i could tell was tryin to psych himself up to be confrontational. Landowner and renter both live out of state-had permission from the renter who farms it. This guy knew the landowner, who didnt know me. So he took it upon himself to try and be a BA. He made his wife drive for a quick getaway should things turn ugly. This happens frequently with toad right of way trapping as well. Some people need slapped.

I agree, but at least communicate that other trappers are also trapping. Fish farmers like as many trappers as possible these days, so they won’t say someone else is there. They don’t care about your time and gas, just what makes them more money.

About done with dear/duck lease farms as well. “We see/hear tons of coyotes”, yeah till you start driving 4 wheelers and hunting all over the place and bounce em out of the country

Seems Trapping to make a decent catch is becoming a rich persons game(ex. The guy on the fish farm I’ve been trapping the last 11 years is self employed and can afford a nice truck/4 wheeler and the 2-3 months time off to trap). Just like deer and duck hunting it’s that way now
