Grandpas bag.....in the truck

Got teased in a good way by the now driving grandsons. I did some hauling today for my daughter. She and Grandma bought some appliances. The 2 boys met me to help load at the pickup place, using my pickup to haul the stuff about 100 miles in crappy Michigan weather. I had tarps/moving blankets. I also have a Grandpa's bag as the boys called it, under the back seat. In it were 6 good bungee straps, 6 good ratchet straps, a good hand full of zip ties, electrical tape, a hank of trap wire, duct tape and finally a Leatherman. All the handy stuff for moving hauling tying down about anything. Duct tape is used to hold tarps and blankets to appliances, when wrapped, its strong. Bungees and ratchet straps hold everything down. extra strapping is folded up and wrapped with tape, to not flap in the wind, flapping straps will pop loose. Explained to the boys about being prepared on the road, how to secure loads....Old Granny speaks up and said, baloney! Your grandpa will back up half a mile to buy some junk next to the road, then use all that crap to tie his new treasure down. Probably before we get home today.... I resemble that. Do you guys keep a Grandpa bag in your truck? What's in it? Never know when you run across a deal!!

Not a grandpaw yet but my truks have straps chain and such that live ni each one. They are trucks and get used as such

i don't keep a bag....the pockets are full, and under the back seat...ratchet straps duct tape toilet paper , at least 2 leathermans, fir ext. road triangles, and a bunch of other stuff random. ....we were camping last summer and ran into a guy from our town, he asked me jokingly if I had a tube of silicone handy.....yup I did

tire patch kit, marking ribbons,probably a crescent wrench, and channel lock pliers....stuff tucked everywhere

If you own a truck without all that stuff in it there is something wrong with you. The type that eats granola and wears sandals and a man bun.

The Grandsons have alot to learn!
Heck, when I take a trip I throw a floor jack in the back. I've seen those modern jacks break and I don't like them.

straps , tools , power tools , potable butane powered soldering iron , some wood blocks , trap wire , spare fluids

when I had my van my wife called it my mobile garage it was a 15 passenger van with the last 6 feet was all tool box and cargo

It would take all night and most of tomorrow to tell ya what all I carry in my rig. Grandpa bag??? Just one ??? I got seven or eight in there right now and four or five to add to it when I take off in a couple days.

We're talking 'daily carry' here, various 'events' require three or four more plus a couple buckets.

How about the 4 tined long handle garden cultivator? Ever since I put one in the truck for beaver trapping, I discovered that it should just come with every new truck. Tailgates are too high and I'm too old for all that jumping in and out. I can hook a gas can, bucket bail, about anything. I can hook unhook a ratchet strap hook with it, but years of practice. I just got a $20 two step ladder I keep in there now, for times I have to climb in the bed. Cannot see the expense of them $6000.00 fancy tail gates. Trucks are so tall a normal fella cannot reach over the side to pick something out of the bed.

I usually travel pretty light - ratchet straps, an extra quart or two of 5w-30, bottle of Heet, a tire pressure gauge, a coyote drag and a hand call, just in case. Need to throw in a log chain or tow strap one of these days, now that it's winter again.

Yup! Also,,I cant stand it when someone borrows my truck,,cause the second it pulls out of the driveway,,,I need something out of it.NEVER fails.

All that stuff is in there buried under an extra jack, boards for under jack, 2 comeAlongs. Wool socks , choppers, fire starting kit. And many more Treasures!

The whole truck Is a Goldmine .

Pull straps here several as cat country is rough and deep at times, hooked pull ropes to hook the straps together, ratchet straps big and small for carrying loads and to strap down stuff on the trailer. #10 Vice grips several in my truck at all times very handy tool. Bungee cords to tighten up some loads cages mostly.

Lighters, gloves and warm clothing incase I get stranded and a jack for tire changes and high center issues along with a few 2X6s for a base.

Mine has been called a "survival truck". I'm pretty sure a person could live pretty comfortably out of it for quite some time.... it's gotten a lot of others out of trouble too over the years.

If you're talking about what I call a potato rake, Paul turned me onto them many years ago. There has been one in the truck ever since.

Yep, that's it! Get a good one, forged tines and well mounted to the handle. I drill a hole for a lanyard. I use mine on the steep banks to pull myself up. Thats why it must be a good one, had the tines pull out of the handle once, resulting in a splash....
