She does not prefer the cold.

It was 60 deg here yesterday morning and I was wishing for some cold but not like that

Re: A Bit Chilly in Alaska - 01/10/22 12:40 PM

Wow , what's the wind chill factor at 30MPH on your snowmobile while checking traps ? !
Providing it would even start ...that's danger cold !!!

Those look like windchill temperatures. Coldest in Chicken last few days was -41. And yes still cold. Minus 40 is where both the Fahrenheit and Celcius scales actually meet i.e. mean the same. Can get confusing other times.

Re: A Bit Chilly in Alaska - 01/10/22 02:00 PM

My buddy lives in Kenny Lake. Said the needle on his thermometer hasn't moved off of -43 in 3 days. Well that was a couple days ago, so maybe it went lower.

No, People don't normally go out and about when it's that cold...if they value their machinery at all. Things break at those temps.

That is not windchill. Those are actual ambient air temperatures.

Looks like temps when my brother in law was stationed up in Alaska(Mid 80s I think) and the temps were -60 for a very long stretch. He said everything was freezing up.Block heaters were a must,,and a lot of folks just tried to keep their vehicles running.

Brad, I am betting that even one night that low in a feed yard or back grounding pens and everything would hurt by the time you figured out how to get everybody water and fèed. Unless you have been through it I doubt a man can fathom the horror of nothing workin and a couple hours worth of chores taking 16 hours

Pete be careful I am told passing stones isn't as much fun as it sounds like so I am guessing that passing ice vibes would be just as bad or worse!

Very dangerous business for sure. Back in the cold snap of 1989 a guy here got some fuel oil on his gloves while trying to clear a blocked filter. Lost all his fingers in just a minute or two.

its nice when the snow squeeks when you walk and your nostrils stick together momentarily when breathing in.
