Tanned coyote worth less than dried coyote?
You have no idea what that/those tanned coyotes looked like. Could have been low grades or absolute junk. I’ve seen some very fough tanned coyotes in my days of dealing with fur.
Lugnut’s post is exactly why printed sale reports with a bunch of numbers means NOTHING. Yet people look at the numbers and immediately panic.
It's true that I don't know what any of the fur looked like. Who does know the quality of fur at any given auction? Unless you are actually there or know someone there that can give a qualified report then all you have to rely on is the numbers to gauge the current market.
I generally respect your opinions because of your experience and knowledge but I think you're off base with this one.
Here's the report from my local district off the Pa Trapper's Association. I didn't attend and I won't sell my fox anywhere near that cheap but, I think it's a great barometer of the current market trends in my state. And a good indicator not to sell at my local PTA auctions. The numbers mean a lot!
I'm not panicking but no matter how you spin it, those numbers stink!
