Marten and skunk was the only thing with a decent price other than 1 of the 2 cats was a good one, coyote prices have dropped 60 to 70% from what they were from a few years ago.We know nothing can stay that high very long,it was nice to have a 5 to 7 years with coyote prices at the level they were at.Over all coyote avg at 31 is'nt horrible everyone got used to $80 to $120 coyotes two years ago I avg $92 on our northern MN coyotes ,last year $62 3 and 4 years ago $78 so I was there for the highs of coyote prices.I don't think we will see those kind of prices ever again, but who knows we keep trapping because we love it,I don't make any money waterfowl hunting or deer hunting I get we get the meat to eat but in the long run normally not this year you can buy beef and chicken for a lot less, but the hunt is were the fun is.

Never stop trapping. But to put up a beaver for 8 dollars? A otter for 24?
Is it a game of supply and demand, or is this going to turn into a recreational sport?

You have no idea what that/those tanned coyotes looked like. Could have been low grades or absolute junk. I’ve seen some very fough tanned coyotes in my days of dealing with fur.

Lugnut’s post is exactly why printed sale reports with a bunch of numbers means NOTHING. Yet people look at the numbers and immediately panic.

It's true that I don't know what any of the fur looked like. Who does know the quality of fur at any given auction? Unless you are actually there or know someone there that can give a qualified report then all you have to rely on is the numbers to gauge the current market.

I generally respect your opinions because of your experience and knowledge but I think you're off base with this one.

Here's the report from my local district off the Pa Trapper's Association. I didn't attend and I won't sell my fox anywhere near that cheap but, I think it's a great barometer of the current market trends in my state. And a good indicator not to sell at my local PTA auctions. The numbers mean a lot!

I'm not panicking but no matter how you spin it, those numbers stink!

Thanks for the additional info. 3 skunks and 2 lynxcats. Not enough to even talk about when it comes to averages. If there had only been 1 cat there and it was the $717.00 one, that would have been the sale average. Which would be very misleading.

Without knowing the quantities sold, it is difficult to know how to interpret the averages.

Sets a pretty low bar when a fur outfit can't even spell MARTEN. Maybe they were selling birds ?

Bawhahaha! grin Overall, no one cares about spelling anymore. Everything needs a translator these days, Ken! My poor old english and spelling teacher would die if she had seen what this country has become. Oh yeah, she already has. Good thing or y'all would have heard from her! lol

I try to not let it get to me as much as it used to! When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade I got so mad that I got a 29/30 on a test that I started cutting it up with my scissors and snipped off the tip of my thumb I’m the process! I got a free trip to the nurses office and it was a bloody mess. Happy trapping! ScottW
