Bought some rib eyes over the weekend. I don’t remember the weight but, they cost me $ 26 for two. I’m going down to the slaughter house and pick up a 1/4 of a cow. If you have your own cow, it’s a two year waiting list. Crazy.

Walmart meat shelves look like that early morning when they're switching to fresh stock for the day. There was beef roast for 4.49 today but I didn't bite. I buy it to grind into burger.

Walmart had cloverdale bacon 3 pounds for $7, I bought 12 pounds.

Roger that!
It's worth watching an NFL game just to see the racist commercials. It's unreal.

The Chinese are selling ham at a loss to put the very few American meat processors out of business.

For butcher hogs the national average price today is 66.19 cents a pound live weight. China is very obviously losing a lot of money on that ham. China should not be allowed to own US based businesses, especially ones critical to the US. China definitely should not be allowed to create a monopoly.

It looks like a Kroger or Walmart near me. We skip the close stores and drive an hour plus to get groceries, if we really need anything badly now. There's stuff to buy closer by, but not most of what we want usually.

Thanks to biden, high value luxury items, like basic sliced bread, are often unavailable here now. mad

Re: Finally made it here - 01/19/22 05:03 AM

Why bash Smithfield meat or workers, none of it is "Chinese" except the corporate ownership.

I watch hogs roll to the local 100+ year old Smithfield plant on a regular basis within a couple miles of my house. The animals are American, mostly raised within a couple hours drive of here and killed and processed by both old and new Americans. A pretty fricking American story. If you're against any foreign corporate ownership, start dumping it ALL, not just Smithfield.

Now, do I wish that the Chicoms had not been allowed to buy Smithfeild in the first place, yeah but that's another story...

Go out back to the dumpster and grab all the meat from yesterday for free.

Comparing apples to oranges. Toyota never started out as an American owned company that was later sold to foreign investors.

It gets ground into hamburger if it's not bought as another cut.
Walmart puts their garbage in compactors and nothing is available. I hauled Walmarts garbage for years.
When they throw away donuts, the employee doing it is escorted by another employee to make sure nobody gets a free outdated donut. They are thrown into a special dumpster that is biodegradable foods which is padlocked.

We don't have the dumpster diving freedom you can experience in Canada unfortunately.

The nitrites and nitrates found in ham, bacon, salami and other processed meats are what is causing many cases of colon cancer. Better off to not buy it..except of course bacon once in a while.

Cheapest bacon I saw last week was in a Sav-A-Lot, like 4.59 for a 10oz package.

Keith got it right;
Remember there is a import ban going into China right now, so they have to dump. There was 90 ref-tractor trailers running loaded at a local plant. When the pigs are in the system you cant stop it over-night.

The Due date is 9 March 2022 on that ham.

Re: Finally made it here - 01/21/22 07:01 AM

We buy all our meat (beef and pork) from local small growers that is butchered at a small local butcher shop.
The quality is much better.
Yes, it costs more but I ain't supporting the commies anymore than I absolutely have to.

Buy local and support your small local producers, or don't but don't complain when big Ag gives you shortages, nitrates and crappy tasting food.

Oh I do support local shops We have bought 3 beefs from Amish butchers here last 3 years But NO One that eats ham would pass on a 3 dollar ham because the parent company sold to China !!
Don’t beat your all American chest and lie just because you didn’t luck up on the deal
Is foreign owned meat companies only thing off limits!!
What about ammo? Guns ? Reloading components? Heck TRAPS!!?
Does it matter if the products they pedal are made in China OR just the financial aspect ?
Start banning China anything you better get ready to go off grid You think China doesn’t own any part of our energy companies
