Any coin experts on here?

You ever seen anything like this? It is a 2009 Puerto Rico quarter and is Is kind of an oval shape . Looks like it was stuck in the mint press. Has a thin edge all the way around it on both sides the head and tail sides set down inside it about 1-2 mm on each side
The ridge mite be a half a mm thick

Looks like somebody took a hammer to it

The center of the coin is like it was pressed together from both sides

Regardless, let's cut Puerto Rico loose and let them be their own Country. We sure don't need them as a new State.

There are plenty of people whom collect odd and or defective coins and paper monies.
Years from now it just might surprise you of the value.
Keep in mind, there are people who collect and spend big bucks on old rusty dilapidated traps also!

Back in the 1950's-60's people would take a silver dime and a spoon, tap around the edges until it flattened out like that quarter is shown, then drill out the middle to make a silver ring. A lot of work, but it only cost a dime. That looks like the start of the process. I think what you have is a defaced quarter.

Are the newly minted Morgan dollars worth anything. They are advertising them on the radio. Just think it mite be neat to have one.

In the late 70's while playing pinball at a arcade I watched a guy working there do the same thing with a spoon. He worked on it for over 1 hour and said he was making a ring.

Probably defaced, but it takes no effort or expense to toss it in the strong box and leave it there until you are going to be face to face with a certified expert.

If they are silver they are just worth bullion price no matter what picture they have on them. neat though

I would say someone was going to make a ring from it. I made a couple rings back in the 70s from all silver coins. It's a lot of piddling around doing it with a spoon like some in earlier post said. If fact the ring that inspired me was made from a silver 50 cent piece. My 6th school teacher Showed me one wore he made tapping a spoon on it. When you do it right you roll the edge real nice and after drilling out the center. You can still read all the printing around the edge of the coin on inside the ring. When you first get started making a coin into a ring. There is the point where they look just like the picture you've posted.
I only made a couple because I didn't have the patience to sit pound a spoon that much. I cheated and started mine with ball peen hammer on vice anvil. Problem with that is its very easy to bend the coin. Which I did and once bent them even a little they were junk.
I did make one out of a Canadian quarter that turned out really nice. My wife has been wearing that every day since 1975. One my buddies made one at same time from 50 cent piece
I know he wore it for years. If he's not wearing it I would almost bet still has it.
The last time the coin ring topic came up. I didn't little checking. I found out there are few guys kind of like Carney's. Do flea market and such. They have some kind little electric hammer deal. You pick a coin out you want ring made from. Go walk the market. Their little machine hammers it into ring almost while you wait.
So anyways being that is newer sandwich coin. They don't hammer as easy as real silver. Plus look kind crappy too. I tried just one and I bent it pretty early in the hammer. I should go look. But I think I have some kind of foreign coin in my jewelry box I started on then quit..

We did that as kids with quarters! And the one in the pic looks like what's called a double strike.
