Last pair of Betas I found was made in 1973 still had tags on laces , brand new in perfect shape 43 year old boots.

Baffin makes a good boot if you stay out of the water.

The Baffins are really good warm boots. I have tried them all and always go back to the Betas

Not trying to derail/hijack this thread , but L.L.Bean's. ' Wicked Good' shearling slippers @ $80 a pop are REALLY good. Very , very warm. Always wanted a pair , finally pulled the trigger a few years ago.

Very happy with them. Well worth the price. Shearling is very warm. No more cold feet. Wish I did it years ago.

I use Baffins for cabin slippers

Hated those bunny boots. Worst I ever wore as they walk your socks down to your toes.

I have wore bunny boot for 30 + years in AK and ND and never had a sock slide down in them. I have hunted, trapped, fished snowshoed and worked in them. I have never wore a special sock with them. I have filled them with water at 10 below and after 15-20 minutes my feet were warm. What other make boot can you do that in?

Enlighten me then on which won't do that as I have tried a bunch with same results.

I've never gotten what I call "toe socks" in them either. I just use whatever cheap calf length socks I buy at Walmart.
Maybe your socks are too loose or your boots are the wrong size. I wear bunny boots a size 1/2 larger than my ordinary shoe size and leave the laces loose. I just slip them on.

I've filled up lots of rubber and neoprene boots with ice cold water that eventually turned to warm water. It's not magic. It's the furnace inside the boot that does it. If the water can't evaporate it doesn't have a cooling effect like sweat soaked socks can have.

Have you ever done that at below 0 temperatures? I filled sorrel pacs and when I took them off the felt liner was froze. That doesn't happen at above freezing temperatures, but we don't all have them in the winter.

Bunny or Micky Mouse boots as I refer to them are the ONLY boots I have never got cold in.

When I was a kid the two boots that were worn by die-hards were Sorel and the white Micky Mouse boots. One Christmas I asked for a pair of Sorel boots. Under the tree was a package obviously the shape of a pair of size 12 boots that I started wearing when I hit the 8th grade. I was happy as a clam. Christmas morning came and I pulled the paper off a pair of ugly brown-green zippered all rubber insulated imposters! I was very disappointed, to say the least. I have zero memory who made these God-awful boots, but I wore them just the same. Well, it turned out my mother knew me and my habit of always having wet feet while trapping and hunting. She explained to me that these rubber boots were likely to keep my feet dryer and warmer than the Sorels I'd begged for. Me Mudder was correct of course, at least about the warmer part. Those old rubber boots were full of water way more often than not, and like MJM's Bunny Boots, it wasn't long and your feet were toasty warm again. I owned those boots until after my daughter was born. For the last 3-4 years the zipper was blown out and I used duct tape to hold the tops together. I wish I knew the make and model today, because I would own another pair now!

I have always put a thick pair of felt insoles under the liners of the boots.

The baffin boots are probably the lightest most comfortable cold weather boots I have owned. I am a loyal customer.

They look like nice boots, but I bought the Schnee's insulated pac boot, and while a little bulkier than the previous pair of the same make, I love them...holler at me when you are freezing to death and I'll try to give advice, lol

IMO the key to warm feet is good circulation and the ability for your feet to breathe. Sizing up will keep blood going to the toes. Sweating feet WILL eventually make your feet cold...if they can breathe so much the better...but if not maybe you can change your wet socks out or the felt insoles midway through the day.. Thats why pacs are popular....but they are heavy. I will often run a light rubber bottom/leather top boot with Outdoor Research Goretex Gaiters. Keeps things light and weatherproof all around. I did away with the calf length pac boots years ago...too heavy!

I think alot of boots will keep you warm no problem if you're sitting still...but add exercise, then the feet will sweat

Honestly the warmest I've ever warn were Steger Mukluks...but they are only good for below freezing weather.

A nice warm beanie and neck gaiter makes a huge difference too

Bunny boots don't care if your feet sweat, your feet are still warm. They may be heavy, but they work. There is no liner or felt pads in them and I don't think they would help if you added them. Some place people get by waring flipflops and crocks all winter, but if you spend time out side in other places you need something else. It gets cold where the OP is from, so he doesn't need something that is good for 30 degrees.

I don't know if it was below zero on the one particular day I remember learning a valuable lesson on water in my boots or not, but it was nasty cold with flood water in a cornfield. The river flooded over night and I had to break through surface ice to get to my land traps. I walked around in water filled boots for hours and I learned that day to not dump them out if you want to stay warm.
Body heat warms the water and the water insulates you from the cold. Dump the water out and your feet will freeze in minutes.
Water is a thermal insulator, not a conductor. I had on just plain lacrosse rubbers that day.

My first thought also.

I was on a wolf hunt in interior Alaska (not my usual habitat) several Marches ago.
My client had a pair of the top-end brand new Sorels, the weather wasn't even all that cold, maybe -5F.
I was wearing white Batas, his feet lasted maybe 30 minutes as we were sitting over an electronic call.
My feet have NEVER been cold in bunny boots.

Bought both the wife and my mother Baffin Barlows. Good warm boots and they seem to hold up well, no idea how the model you bought will compare, but the Barlows are leather uppers so they will probably wear better. I wear Hoffman wool felt pacs myself, not as warm but comfortable walking boots that last, and I put a lot of abuse on them. My feet never get cold in them if I am active, and very rarely while still as long as I pull the liners out every night and dry the sweat out of them (even if you don't think you sweated through the day, you'll notice the difference if you don't dry the liners overnight.

The wife does say her toes get cold in the Baffins because they are steel toes (couldn't get any non steel toed Barlows at the time) you never want steel toes in a cold weather boot, but they were all that were available and she needed a pair of boots.

The bunny boots may be warm (wore a pair of off brand ones years ago) but if you are hiking around in the mountains they certainly aren't a walking boot. If you are sitting though I'm not sure that anything compares with them.

There is a trick to keeping your feet warm in the coldest weather,and it has little to do with the type of boot.
Your feet can be cold or toasty warm in any boot.
It is all about having lots of airspace between your feet and the boot.You need to keep your feet DRY.That is best done with an oversized boot with a good dry duffle and one thin pair of socks.

The only exception to that is if you wear a smoketanned moosehide pair of mukluks,with wool duffle.They can be tight because smoke tanned moosehide breathes and your feet stay dry.Commercial factory tanned mukluks are no good because the leather doesnt breathe-it is stuffed with oils.

To keep your socks from sliding down to your toes........wrap a piece of duct tape around your ankle above the ball joint. Not tightly, just enough to keep the sock in place. It works wonders.

Also Boco's suggestion about air space is very true.
Light silk or polypropylene liner socks to wick sweat away from skin then good calf high wool.
Most can't get the smoked tanned muck lucks.. but I'm open to buying a pair.
