TX people, saltwate fishing help - 01/28/22 11:12 AM

I am probably going to go to Donna TX for a couple weeks. My elderly neighbors are there for the winter. It looks like South Padre is the closest fishing there. Does anyone know where to go to fish the salt where we can get his wheelchair?

Went down there a couple years ago. Google fishing docks like Danny said. I just picked up a 2 piece ugly stick at Walmart so I could fit it in our little car. I was wanting to catch redfish and outffitted a rod and small tackle box for that. Ended up mostly using a rig that had multiple hooks on it and a weight below, like we drop shot here. Tried artificial bait (caught nothing) but a local on the pier was kind enough to borrow me a frozen shrimp and I started catching stingrays. They then had to show me how to take em off without getting stung.
Either buy a cheap rod/reel or make sure you wash your stuff really good. It will all rust from the salt.
Talk with locals. The locals I had met on the pier seemed reluctant to talk to a white guy with a Gophers football shirt but got one guy to warm up and then when I caught that first ray they were eager to help me with it so I didn’t get hurt. And they started talkin a little more.
Don’t be afraid to grab some real bait
Good luck!

I kinda like that pier. I wonder if he will spend 3 hours in the van to go.
I prefer bait fishing any way.

That could be a possibility too. It is all about getting HIM out fishing.

I am heading back to MN in the morning. Never wet a line. Too expensive to have to buy a yearly license to go out on one charter for one day.
