I've got pair hip waders used to be chest waders. Blew the crotch out waders. So cut them for hip boots. Don't wear the hip boots enough so have had them for years now. Most my waders by time top are shot. The boots are patched to point not worth saving. Infact got two pair waders probably going in trash come spring. Can only patch the patches so many times. Neoprene starting to detach from nylon shell. So that is death them waders.

These old mucks have been my favorite slip-ons for several years. Tops of the mucks didn’t survive the brush.

I do the same as 330 with old chest waders, they become hip boots. Hip boots become rubber boots.

Everyone laughed at me when I did it- they slip on great for running out for tip ups at the cabin and now- the first person to see the flag puts those on and is gone!

I cut mine off just above the stiff line. I do like the short ones above and might do that to mine as well. I have had them for years and use them daily during the winter. I also use them trapping as they fit so well.

Used to buy them that way when La Crosse had a store at the factory. they cut the top off defective waders and hip boots, wore them for years and the hogs never noticed. Mike

Been doing that for years.Wore a pair of my cutoffs last weekend ,when in the snow after the winter meeting.
They are actually comfortable ,with a nice built in pad on the inside bottom.
I slip a pair on every day ,when heading to the mail box.wearing one pair now and have several in waiting.

I bought a pair of neoprenes this fall for beaver trapping. It’s all they had at Scheels. Anyway, I did a query about repairing neoprene because I know I’ll need to, and I found some roof construction material that’s supposed to work. NP-1 or NP1 is used to repairing neoprene sheeting. I think Menards might have it, but if not, commercial roofing companies should.

Before neoprene waders became my go to. I used the top off my old black lacrosse waders for skinning fleshing apron. Could be a bit to warm in early season but sure kept coon grease off me.

Use the wader tops for protection while fleshing. Work better then aprons.

As long as the bottoms are still good , I've done it .
They seem to hold up better than the regular boots too .
The regular boots seem to crack on the heels for some reason .

Yup where them in the fur shed.

Re: Who else Does this? - 01/29/22 09:35 PM

Yep... "Old School", why throw something away when it can be used... in the way it was intended or for some other purpose. I learned this from my Dad and he was always saying, "Don't throw it away if you can use it for some other purpose". I asked him about it once and he replied, "Try living through great a depression".

Enough said, I sometime think I am today...

The question is...why wouldn't you? cool
Problem I see is the boots crack where the bend making them useless except for a light dew....

Every pair I've owned gets cut like that. Got a pair of Cabelas chest waders that got turned into hip boots that are almost ready to become knee boots

I got a hole in my boat 22 years ago that is ¼" x 1½" on a Saturday night. Where can you weld your boat on a Saturday? NP-1 & duct tape to the rescue! Still holding tight! The duct tape was just a backer for the caulk.

I'm thinking about making Crocs out of my knee boots that the sides blew out of. I just have to trim them and burn a bunch of holes all over in them...
