Nice. Hard to be sure under the mud but looks good

I washed 60 some coyote pelts in a laundromat in Ogallala NE one time. If you use cold water and woolite, then turn the dryer all the way down, you can clean up several, or one, in a short time. If you do that they need to be fleshed and on a stretcher pretty quick. Be careful fleshing. After you wash them like that the belly will rip easy during fleshing. I have fleshed first but then the leather side is almost black from the dirt. Buyers used to think that just knifing off the chunks and fat was fine for coyotes but now they want them fleshed clean.

A hide in a five gallon bucket of water works too. Just stir it around good with a stick or toilet plunger. With a plunger and an up and down motion they clean up pretty fast. May have to change the water a couple times. Wring it out good as you can. Hang it by the nose in a cool place to dry some. Next day you can flesh it. Keep an eye on it. will take a little longer to dry enough to flip. I use borax on the leather of any I have to wash as a precaution.

It took six changes of water to get her clean. But here she is on the board. [Linked Image]

Are you going to get the first one Tanned,?

Re: First Coyote - 02/07/22 12:09 AM

I might. I have another one a friend of mine caught that is a unique color.I thought about getting it tanned so I might get both done.
