.. or ride along or whatever y’all were wanting lol
... .... Roy’s artistic side on display
... got to cross the big lake between here and there
... yankee weather down here
Didn’t get many sets in trying to figure out the roads in there ... the map they gave me ain’t true.... every time I try to ride out a loop the road that’s supposed to go through don’t anymore lol
... I’ve resigned myself to backtracking
... only had 2 on first check this morning... but judging from their looks this place has excellent genetics ... truly gorgeous specimens
That one still in the trap looks like its wearing the shag throw rug from my granny's bathroom. Truly something else, that coyote is. I wouldn't worry about ole Roy. He spelled trespassing right. The ones who don't are the ones you need to always watch your six.
I still think them hyena sausage's work better for bait than them rotten eggs with the warning labels. But it's your show, you run it as you see fit, lol.
Nice Savell ! Don’t forget to take accurate measurements off that carcass so the full body mount will be a majestic as possible. Pics might help the taxidermist as well. You already have a dingle berry reference photo. Gettem!
... Jtrap if you thought yesterday was pitiful... you’ll be excited to know today was even worse lol
.. but I’m changing to flat sets now
... Yoteguts ... judging from the lack of sign... there ain’t too much of anything to be had lol .... seeing some coyote sign here and there and cut one set of cat tracks yesterday
Looking good! You need to take Dave with you so he can take more pictures of sets and locations while you do the driving a set making. Just my opinion.....
... good idea Paul Dobbins .. I’ll have to contact the deer guy to see if he’ll go for somebody riding shotgun... they take these deer very serious in this place lol
... Oh yeah ... talked to Roy today .. he said I ain’t crap cause he trapped in Alaska in the 70’s lol
What's the average weight on them yotes? I know the cat on the end is closer to the camera but he looks like a big one. Keep up the good work. Maybe ole Roy can give ya some pointers.
Dan.... that cat was a grown one ... dang catch pole bound up on me from being stove up ... cat pulled back... got air born and threw a left hook at me eye level... little bit of a rodeo there for a second lol
... Jtrap if you thought yesterday was pitiful... you’ll be excited to know today was even worse lol

Id live trap that one, Savell, it’s pooping cans of Vienna Sausages!
Stackin em up now. Canada Goose don't know what they're missin out on.
.. maybe someone will start a company called “Mississippi Guinea” marketing cheap ratty fur trimmed jackets to teenage girls in trailer parks.. that away I’d have a market for these majestic creatures
.. aww yeah! Heck of a lure maker that is Bossman .. I couldn’t even catch a coyote or cat until I tried Dobbins lures... I’ve heard they also work wonders for dry skin and irritable bowel syndrome
Thanks for the pictures of locations and sets. That's how you make the archives, not because you posted a picture of one of my lures. And that bit about you not able to catch a coyote or cat until you tried my lures is pure horse pucky.
Keep up the good work. We're really enjoying seeing what you're doing.

... so you’re saying they do work wonders for irritable bowel syndrome?
... all kiddin aside ... you do make a good lure ... been the official cause of death for many a predator down here lol
What you get for using that hyena sausage, it has pork in it! What did you expect to happen?
Im off the crippled up list now, heading back to the swamps tomorrow.

Warming up nicely here. I expect it's a bit warmer 200 miles south of here. Bet if I get the right south wind I could smell the aroma of those dogs ridin' in your truck.
....for the singalong... drinking cool ones and listening to the anthem from my early twenties down here in Texas .. get your throat healed up Charlie..

Savell, I can hear the John Denver music whistling through those pinery woods as you drive along looking for one more puff the magic dragon to slay. I'm afraid a jury of your peers has decided that because of the lack of uniform color and texture - it appears you are catching coyotes from the east, maybe the west, for sure the south, and nothing from the north....
you are hereby ordered to call them yots. They don't have enough fur to be called coys or yotes or coyotes. Just yots. Piney woods yots.
It looks like some of our poor furred dirty colored Ohio coyotes are wintering in your country. Please keep them with our compliments.
Great work. Hopefully BBQ the pig will be tasty.
Do you see any of the sneaks wearing black pajamas?
... I have no no idea what you mean by sneaks wearing black pajamas? .. guessing you’re talking about wetbacks?.. if that’s the case, I’m so far east they’re dry by now and changed clothes and identities lol
....for the singalong... drinking cool ones and listening to the anthem from my early twenties down here in Texas .. get your throat healed up Charlie..
...I just noticed something....Swampwolf hasn’t been in here.... y’all don’t reckon he’s hidin in these woods with binoculars watching me do you ? Lol
Ive been checkin in on ya. I see your killin a few.
Stay outta them bar & grills.....supposed to be trappin...not hangin with the locals.
BTW....I aint seen you post on my thread. Its in the Trapping Only forum.
Take a look at it and you'll see more of those "habitat transitions"...
I even mentioned your keen coyote observation in my thread...
... I try to stay out of that strictly trapping forum for the most part.....those hands in there are too serious for me lol ... but I’ll check it out just for you Mr Swamp.... seen your TX kin slow ridin down the road eyeing me earlier.. call them and tell em I’m alright lol
Final Net hair spray from the 80's is what caused climate change, not the big suv's of today! They sprayed so much of that stuff into the atmosphere we even had acid rain threatening to destroy whole forest in Canada! I was afraid to go outside when it rained for fear the acid would melt me.

Jtrap you should of cut back on the hair spray a little
I guess i can quit watching this post now, rain usually shut's most land lines down like a dead battery, only a few of us 'experts' can operate in such conditions, lol.
Location where coyote left one track up above pan.... he wasn’t too interested... probably didn’t use Dobbins lure at that set lol.... if you ain’t using Dobbins lure all you’ll catch is tracks and trichnosis
... location- low ground gumbo mud ( this is where Jtrap would likely make his sets) ... fortunately I made it past elementary school and don’t have any traps near this kind of crap lol
... fresh coyote tracks since the rain.. nearest set that caught last night is a good ways from here ... hope he covers some ground tonight and messes up ... if not I’ll keep an eye on this area ... if more tracks show up I’ll put a set in for him..
... another trick is to check your tire tracks from they day before for coyote prints... be careful though... I have drove off into holes and such doing this lol
There’s turkey in this place .... unusual for this area ... finally got a pic of them before they hit brush... dang near wrecked a few times trying last week .. probably seen a total of 30 or so...
No traps down there where the coyote is just a picture of some tracks. IF you knew how to operate under all condition's rather than just ride around in the hills on a cupcake trapline you would be able to remove ALL the predator's not just the dumb half blind cripple and crazy one's.
I put a new trigger on my beaver cage trap today, im really going place's now.
... naw Jtrap... got out here a little late because I knew the sun was out and the wind was blowing.... another pro tip for you on how to not be playing in the mud lol
They started a MC across the road from my house, had their first meeting last weekend, I named them the Son's of Malarkey. Not sure if they heard me or not cause all they want to do is sit and rev up their motor scooter's.
Frosty morning even down your way, i nearly froze this morning then got hot during the day then back cold when the sun started going down.
Need to pelt that big yote out after it's sit in your truck all day and give us some pointer's on skinning them.
What are skidders bringin in the round these days? I know I ain't gonna try skinnin one. I do like that by God KMA cowboy hat. I happen to have picked on up just like that one while in San Antonio 4 or 5 years ago. Dead injun. Crow I believe. Mighta been Pawnee. I forget.

... that’s for sure gonna be Comanche hide ... took my ancestors a good deal of work to tamp those high octane sonofguns down
... that is a good thing to bring up though Jtrap ... pan tension and using lure rather than bait will keep your coon / skunk / possum catch down... bait draws too much trash in and keeps em there too long
.... and by lure I mean Dobbins lure ... if you ain’t using that all you’ll catch is gophers and gonerea
... they’re gettin thin in there for sure ... 75 degrees now with rain all night, then I have a temp drop... after the rain, plan is to bait all dirt holes (no bait used yet) and re-lure flat sets (with lure not used yet) .. hoping it’s not a turd gully washer tonight and the peat keeps traps covered....then I’ll run and pull Sunday... should pick off a few stragglers thataway
... and I know I’ll hit 30... because I use Dobbins lures and beaver meat in Dobbins bait solution... if you ain’t using that.. all you’ll catch is possum and pancreatitis
Yep, noticed that and he's try'n to flat'n his hat brim. He should put it on the dashboard with the windows rolled up, don't take as long.
... evidently you have a problem with me ... which is of no matter far as I’m concerned since I figure you for a miserable old man clinging to his pocket knife collection like a 12 year old boy lol

... what are you drinking on tonight old hand ?
I can say you give as good as you take, or a bit better.....
Ain't had a drop. Won't till my wife's birthday, Then Glenlivet single malt and as many Killions Irish Red beers as I can stand. In my view if you can see through the beer glass it ain't beer. And you can see Austin through that stuff your drinkin.
And my only problem with you is we're on the same continent. Why don't you leave? I'll give you a free pocketknife to take so's you can whittle or somthin.

Lol case x , I'll give a little and say that savell ain't worth your time, but you can't dodge the fact that my ol buddy won't pony up and admit that even the strongest of men can't resist the innocent pleasures of a well placed, yet misguided brew! I'm gonna have to back my horse up and take a bow...sometimes I forget the little things in life!
... y’all are dumber than these coyote I’m catchin lol ... get yourself a good man to spend some quality time with or somethin ...the two of you would make a good fit from what I’m seeing lol
Approved hourly time for the pay period and back at the house so.... ride along... sing along .... I know... let’s have a skin along...
... get em opened and pulled down to the a-hole before you hang em..(if you ain’t using a serrated pelter you aught to be )
... tail stripper , channel lock pliers, 2 sticks... it all works
... yank hide down to armpits
... push through with your thumb
... pull leg down to ankle and cut hide loose
... yank down to ears
... cut ears loose
... same thing with the eyes
...a little whitlin down to the nose and cut it loose along with the lower jaw .. done deal
Huh, I've never used a tail stripper. Used channel lock pliers a whole lot back when I used to bring them home to skin though, and two chunks of schedule 40 quite a bit also. Anymore I skin them all in the woods, while they are hot the hide pulls way easier, so it is always two sticks.
^^^^^ it's just that crazy Texican Savell subduing creation again. From the inside out. He talks a big 'ol tough sing along game and we think his encampment is impenetrable but....
one, I mean just one whisper from his sweet Mrs. lips, and you're gonna see a big, bad, coyote catching, bobcat skinning, bull tossing, chew chawing cowboy....
comma running so dern fast with a yes mame and a no mame flying outta his lips.
All for a dance.
It'll make your cows buckle at the knees, And critters skin themselves.
How bout that?
Mr. Savell..a-mamas-man
How do I know?
Well, um, er, duh, ah, well I um..... IT'S OK! WE'RE MARRIED
if you ain’t using a serrated pelter you aught to be
Oh no. A lone star drinking, catfish catching, coyote killer that cant sharpen a knife? Who woulda thunk it. I cant believe anybody would rather pelt with a saw blade than a good sharp pelter.

Even us Northern guys know you don't take beer drinking advice from someone who drinks his from a glass.

I gotta agree with the Texican, and I’m right fair at sharpening a knife. That said, I only use the serrated pelter for the head. The head is what dulls your knife as you’re well aware. Also, you can sharpen those pelters just like any other knife. When they are wore out the wife gets them for the kitchen.

Other guys get mad when I put my mouth over the tap, worried I got cooties. An I don't like my beer runnin down my neck. There's only one swallow in a bottle and it's a big glass.
Well, casexx, I guess you have taken all the fun out of a very delightful little sing-a-long, here. Be Proud. Jerk.
... don’t give that blow hard yank that much credit Lufkin. Lol.. I just didn’t catch a dang thing (Jtrap’s been waiting for this day awhile now lol) ... knew it was coming but I basically garaunteed 30 coyote off this place ... I know there’s 5 more in there somewhere... temps dropping, sets refreshed ...and 3 checks to go
.. I’ll put in a song after a can of sardines and a few more berry flavored wine coolers
Yea dummy you need to get with the program if your going to be a famous internet trapper, you take the same animals and just rearrange them everyday, that way you can claim you caught 900 or 1000 in a single season and all the groupy's will make you go viral or give your a virus or whatever they call it, haha
Dodged about a dozen tornado's here tonight, now just under our normal flash flood warnings, perfect beaver trapping weather!
Are you trailer camping away from home? sardines for lunch and dinner
I’m at Cowboy Cody’s camp right now ( go back and forth to the house every other day) ... he keeps a little camper up here on the north end of the lake... got a power pole and everything... called him when nothing in it worked to let him know it wasn’t me that did it.... he said “I know Savell .. got a rat chewed up everything in there ... one outlet on the right side works.. heater is shot .. but that ac blows cold son” lol ... it was 27 degrees when we had this conversation lol... that’s what sleeping bags are for

... a little wet and windy here too Jtrap ... tell us a story
Pretty interesting some of the places a trapper stays in when away from home huh? ive stayed in hotels, wall tent shops, and crappy houses that had more live bait running around than i could stomp on! lol hope the rat dont chew on your toes!

I read somewhere that Comanches did not call themselves Comanches. The Utes named them that. It means, "anyone who wants to fight me all the time." Seems fitting.

Living arrangement sounds like old trailer of some sorts i stayed in back in the 80's. Was a good one inch gap in every corner of the thing, i slept with a kerosene heater right next to my head but could still blow steam while laying under a sleeping bag, woke one morning near froze to death before i could get dressed. Had 72 fox/cat sets to pull in ground so frozen i had to chop around the whole trap bed and take frozen red clay trap and all, lol. Was 5 degree's that day with a wind chill of 15 below gusting out of the north at 30 mph. Coldest ive ever been in my life.
Days later as it warmed up you would hear a trap snap in the back of my old jeep from time to time as they thawed out, lol.
... if you ain’t using Dobbins lure... drinkin Miller when Lonestar’s in short supply... and a wearin 2X wool hats... all you’ll catch is buzzards and botulism

yessir Mr Bruce , the late 90’s when I was young that’s the kind of music that played on the radio stations around here... it was the start of what’s called “red dirt” these days .. even though I say it started with Townes V.Z. .. Guy Clark and the like... in the late 90’s it was a pushback to the garth brooks nonsense...
... anyway.. here’s a nod to the newer Oklahoma hands... but I’ll bet they say their influence was Keen, Morrow, Robison, Green and such

Do you watch Yellowstone, Savell? I think you'd like it. And it's bringing attention to your kind of music.
Was Townes V.Z.'s Dead Flowers your wedding dance? LOL
.. Yote... dead flowers was a Rolling Stones song they wrote trying to be honkeytonk limeys lol ... I believe ol Townes would get screwed up on heroin and who knows what else and cover their songs while falling down a lot lol
... and yes I watch Yellowstone... the hand that makes that series is from here in Texas... he also made the movie Helll or High Water ... watch it if you haven’t already

Looks like your killing it Savell! If I had to depend on my kids to catch critters, I think I'd just quit! Lol, no really in my neck of the woods it's all about them...if they aren't willing to carry on, then we're all just spinning our wheels! Hope the camper heated up a little last night!
... well then can just go peck it with the chickens Yote lol
Well now come 'on Savell, those brothers were bumbling idiots. No one in Texas can be THAT dumb can they? It was like watching Boco and Rvask trying to rob a bank lol.
... Land secured... mission accomplished.. the point of the movie is the property tax problem we deal with down here due to all y’all yankee and west coasters moving in ... I’ve got to spell everything out for y’all in here don’t I lol
Or ya could just forgo the Lonestar for a week or two and pay your taxes. Seems easier than robbing a bank. Unless Texas is like NY and requires your first born and all his heirs to pay a year of taxes?
Or ya could just forgo the Lonestar for a week or two and pay your taxes. Seems easier than robbing a bank. Unless Texas is like NY and requires your first born and all his heirs to pay a year of taxes?
... your first suggestion is obviously not an option lol...truth is we got to keep the yanks and the west coasters from selling their little houses for a million dollars and runnin down here and buying a couple acres sight unseen off the internet for 20 X times it’s actual value just because they can ... a lot of people that have been down here for generations can’t keep up with what that does to property taxes ... an acre appraising at 20 x what it did 5 years ago and what have you ( they base it off of recent transactions in the area)
I like the photos of the animals showing some enthusiasm! The wrinkled muzzles look intense. One Coyote a couple back had tremendously white teeth! I understand that fawn and yearling meat is a natural tooth whitener. Have you caught a female cat, and then caught a few males still hanging in the area. Cuts can be dumb when it comes to that special love perfume. Keep up the good work! Please post the tally when finished. I still haven’t gotten cold, hot, or tired!
Can't wait to see how far he goes as a honky tonk singer, got a country singer look about him. Maybe his head will grow into that feather in a few years, hahahaha
I guess im a old relic, still cross staking rebar. Tried that disposable crap long ago, wasn't for me. Last time i used those was cause i was helping a buddy set up a place and it was his junk i was using, coyote jumping around in a set id made then it ran off as we drove up, just another reason i don't care for disposable's. Been raining for a week so the ground got rotten, he use's short chains and no shock spring also.
I have that same gas drill, pretty cool, I got a 5 inch auger for it to plant trees around the field edges. Great tool and I am glad you followed your Son's lead and added a feather to your hat as well.
I was going to comment about the white hairs but that grounds already been covered.
That is a nice looking coon for your part of the world, bet it would fet 2.34 cents at auction plus the 5 for the meat and you can buy another can off that off brand snuff you dip.
Enjoyed the sing along, ride along, come along, boot scoot boogie trapline adventure of a lifetime. Your looking raggedy now, get some rest so you can enjoy Joe Bidden day tomorrow.
Savell and Son? Not alot different than the tv version, price of those coons and floor mat coyotes they could be confused with someone in the junk business, haha
Savell Your little man might have been all smiles and a thumbs up but I betcha that coyote Was starting to sweat bullets and had that look on its face like, “OMG, he’s walkin this way!”

You done good young man! Thank you for doing this for us. Your ride-along was entertaining and educational for many.
Lol.. don’t throw that word young out there ... turned 44 last week or somewhere in there ... still feel 21 though lol
Great ride along pard. I stayed tuned into another "Piney Woods Adventure," brought to you by... the prophet and his greying beard of 44 years. 44 years? Dang son. You're just a pup. Step wisely so you age gently and whisper softly and listen carefully.
