Ex- Amish what part of Ohio are you in? That's a great haul, I have a place in southeastern Ohio and the bucks definitely started dropping earlier this year than past years. The weather has been pretty rough this winter so I think that probably had something to do with it

Oh, Law Dog, don't be going and picking up the buck skull without calling the game boys first! Don't even move it!!
The GF&P reluctantly "allows" us to shed hunt but picking up buck skulls is something they have to investigate. They are very protective of "their" buck skulls. And if its a big one (buck skull) with inside spread of 22 or more inches, just leave it there because they will take it and put it in their annual auction. NO PRIVATE CITIZEN in SD is allowed to keep a 22 inch inside spread or larger found buck skull. They will cite you (even if that administrative law isn't found in the annual hunting book) if you take it. Good luck...

I’m in the northern part. The bucks here have been dropping for a few months now

Everything on my cameras still have both antlers
I saw 7 bucks in my backyard yesterday and 5 had both sides and 2 had half racks. I watched several bucks fighting in the group hoping their antlers would come off but they didn’t. I think most were 2.5 and 3.5 year old bucks.

Ok so it's not a monster but first one of the year today. Was out walking after work checking coon and fox dens and stumbled across this little one on a field edge. The farmer still appreciated it. He lost two tires on tractors last spring running over sheds. Got a couple of days coming in the 50's maybe I'll go looking for some sheds.
I will be waiting a couple of months before we are able to get out here.

I know someone else from there who is waiting for the snow to go away. Then the detector comes out.

Landowners can have them I’m no collector I’m just happy to trap, yes they have a hard time letting go it seems like just like the roadkill ones.

I am surprised how bleached out those deer antlers are. Our Moose sheds are still nice chocolate brown.
Nice sling too ! I've got one just like it !
On a Marlin 22WMR w/clip.
Is yours cotton ? or nylon ?

Pick a bunch every year. Lots of snow this year where I’m at. Finding a lot of dead mule deer(old bucks) and the whitetail are in big bush and having a hard time travelling. Picked up a few , but not many. Sell about 4-500 pounds a year. Need some snow to melt.
Last couple
Starting to get a pile. Ran into a bunch of mule deer yesterday with at least 8 bucks having horns.

Re: Shed thread 2022 - 02/26/22 10:44 PM
Haven't had time to get out yet, yesterday I saw a 100" 8 pt with both sides yet, wasn't expecting that long tough winter here this year 60"plus of snow and quite cold also.More than 30" of snow on the level,we should have run off this year, last year we had just under 2 feet for the winter snow.

Do you think that 2-pt is from this past season or has been sitting a year? Maybe its an age of the critter deal that it doesn't have more brown on the lower antler.

Re: Shed thread 2022 - 03/05/22 03:55 PM
NonPCfed, it was fresh still had partial wax ring and the other side still had brown on it, but it was laying in a field and got sun bleached pretty good

Took a walk out back after work to do a little more shed hunting and found these two 20 yards apart.both chewed up a bit but the one with the drop tine and flyer was still a dandy.the drop was over 6" and the flyer was 3". His g2 was broke off also.
Shame about the chewing. Do you think they were this years?

Re: Shed thread 2022 - 03/09/22 01:07 AM
No, I think both were from last year.

Last year, because we trap Texas ranches in May, June and into July, Donna and I found and sold just shy of 6K of horn.
The market is the best we have and Donna can spot 'em from the buggy at a high rate of speed.
Blessings,
Mark

Found a heavy short tined old buck matching set
Sorry, didn't realize I had already posted about that trip.
Here's one from a trip this winter, two friends and I found 32 and a wolverine. Best trip so far.
The two biggest ones were 29 and 30 pounds.
Here's a trip where a friend and I found 10.

I don't shed hunt but I never gave it a thought about 1,000 lbs. bull moose rubbing to get the velvet off. I bet that could be a noisy and even violent process and lengthy as well. Nice way to clear out some clearings in the bush.
Bryce
Pretty amazing seeing bull moose get their velvet off, but far more impressive is when you call one in close during the rut, and it tears up the underbrush when it's trying to scare off rivals.
Took some boys from our church youth group out walking today, found these in two hours. Going to split the money evenly, no matter who found what.
