Slim Pedersen - **UPDATE FEB 16 PM **

UPDATE . FEBRUARY 16 6:30 pm

I talked to Slim this morning, and he'd been able to get on Trapperman (his laptop gives him fits sometimes!) to see this post, and he CORRECTED me with info that I had never had before today! I know why also, as he was in Iowa the end of Oct at the Backwater Bait rondy, then as soon as he got home from there, this "move" thing started and I hardly got a chance to talk to him much for a few weeks.

The news is: His original diagnosis was MS, after xrays, doctor visits, on and on ....specialists......they all told him MS. Which is what he told me originally too. During the "move" at some point, one of the doctors sent him to get an MRI of the spinal column. Then they sent him to a vertebrae specialist. Turns o ut the the lowest 5 vertebrae do NOT have a spinal cord in them. They gave him shots between the vertebrae, so he has some feeling back in that leg, but he can't depend on it as it gives out at any given time. And THAT is why he has to use a walker to get around. I'm thankful it's not MS after all, like several doctors told him. He was told a long time ago that he had MS.

However, he still can't walk and all the other info is the same. Which is more than EVER making me question why this situation is there for him. I really really appreciate everyone that has sent some funds, thank you from him too, as I'm sure he'll post on here eventually. He's a pretty modest humble guy, so hard for him to accept help when he wants to be the one giving it out.

Here is how I think we'll do this: MY PAYPAL is : botiecat@hotmail.com. Most of you know me, and that I'd NEVER take any of his money, we've been friends for years. He's one of my best friends. Send him a card, but paypal me the money and I'll send him cash in priority envelopes a couple times a month or whenever he wants it and (less than $100) at a time. IF he wants things I can buy on Amazon and have sent (I've been buying him stuff on Amazon since he got there and having it sent) I'll use some for that. I'll keep track who sends what, and don't worry,he will know. I talk to him 4-5 days out of the week for a bit. Sound ok ? I used to keep the Trapperman Discretionary Fund for several years many years ago FYI. and.....you CAN, put a small gift card like for Dominos or Amazon in the card if you wish, but no cash I've been told by a few people. They are saying that he's not "ALLOWED" which will really tork him off! to have much cash because of the situation there. so Paypal to me please. [/b]

Hi everyone. I put this on his Facebook page the ( Slim Pedersen Trapper page) also but there are a lot of people on here that may/may not see it there. Thanks in advance for reading this.

I wanted to give everyone an update on Slim and his health. I apologize in advance as I'm late doing this, but he really didn't want to ask for any sympathy - he's always been pretty darn independent and doesn't like to ask anyone for help.

For those that don't know, Slim has had M.S for awhile now, it affects his legs and walking, he now has to use a walker to get around. What it has NOT affected is his mind, so he's pretty frustrated by it and has sadly accepted that he can't trap anymore. I used to get him out to trappers homes to do instructions, that's very difficult now as airports and planes are pretty annoying to go through these days.

Long story short (hard for me to do!) his daughter decided he needed to be in an assisted living place there locally, instead of in his own apartment where he was living in Bridger MT. NOW he's in Laurel MT, I will put the address below. We are hoping that trappers will still want to go out to him, take him out of there and up into the hills, and do some instruction in his area. He cannot drive right now (he could, but his car was taken so the gov't would pay for this housing), so he's pretty stuck there for the winter, if not longer. He also is, to be blunt, pretty strapped for $ as the gov't took his social security to pay for where he is staying.

I want to make this clear, Slim does not have dimentia, in case that's floating around (his daughter tells people she thinks he does), he's got M.S. He can't walk, and he's living somewhere he has no desire to be as his daughter set this up and he really didn't have a choice to be more blunt. Hopefully I won't be in deep trouble for putting this post on.

The reason for the post:

Slim's put everything he ever had into Trapping, put all his savings into a trap idea that's never come to fruition (close!) so........I'm asking everyone that can, send him a card, slip a $20 in there if you can and write him a note about your trapline. He won't probably answer, as his handwriting is pretty bad and hard for him, but I can get him to tell me who to thank. He just needs daily things like all of us do, there is a local grocery store who delivers to seniors on Wednesdays. Another trapper from MN and I got him a small fridge, I've been sending him munchies and stuff from Amazon, just if he had some cash he could order a pizza from Dominos once in awhile, etc.

IF you have his cell #, call him ! He loves talking trapping, and as I said, his mind is fine. If you happen to live close by there, or are going to that area, he'd love to see you . Give me a couple days to answer please.

Thanks in advance for reading all this, and for all your support for Slim over the years. You might be able to tell I'm a bit irritated that he was "put" there, walking with a walker doesn't make a person unable to have your own place. And I'm not the only one that feels that way.

We had these talks through the years both of us more afraid of the situation's he's now in that just up and killing over on the trapline somewhere. Met ALOT of sharp trapper's through the years and none compare to Slim when it comes to predator's, he's in a league all his own in that department.

I hate to hear this kind of thing happening to people.

I guess I trust people too much, we're thinking if he starts getting cash in envelopes the powers that be there, will alert his daughter, and I'd expect an explosion. I'm probably already going to be in hot water for all I've been sending him so far, and now these posts!

Ms Cat sent some money to your paypal account threw in an extra $10 in case you get charged a fee. Dang if that site works the same way for me twice! You are a great person looking out for this fine fella! Anything else a guy could do for him from a far? Have my daughters send letters? Sent a Magician or Elvis actor before to a home for examples. Not sure of his interests outside of trapping. Any ideas that would make his day? pm me if you have ideas. Can not imagine being so accomplished and losing my freedom to live on my own.

Slim was guest of honor at a trapping get together here in Iowa last summer.
He is an interesting fella.
I can see where he would have trouble with every day stuff. I'm having trouble just using a walker due to hip surgery.
He has some books and DVDs for sale you guys might ask about.

I don't get to Laurel very often anymore however if I do go down to Billings I'll do what I can to take the short drive over to see him .
We had some great visits over the years at different conventions here in Montana .

Forgive me if I'm mistaken but if I remember correctly doesn't his son live in Forsyth ?

It was just maybe a couple months or so ago i ran into Slim at the grocery store in Bridger. I carried his groceries to his car for him. We talked a bit of trappin. What a great feeling! He has helped me through his teachings. Books, Videos and demos.Im glad i could give a little back to Slim that day at the store. Im not too far from Laural,MT. Have to get there soon! For any of you who are new enough to not know who Ms Cat is, you may rest assured that she is completely legitimate. It would be a very cold day somewhere very warm before she would do something dishonest. You can 100% believe that this is the real deal.

Mark is right. She set up the discretionary fund and handled it for a number of years. She's completely trustworthy. Just don't tick her off or you may get some violent weather .

Paul i still have my tinfoil cap so im protected fm Maw Cat lol. Ms Cat is the real thing. Anyone reading this do what you can for Slim.

Those pink poster's, hahaha, id forgot about them. He was proud of himself for going around taking them all down until i asked if he had been in the women's restroom? hahaha. Then he was outside it trying to bribe every woman that went in to take those posters down for him, hahaha

Does Slim like crossword puzzles or word search puzzles or sudoku?? If so, a person could send him a couple of those in a letter. Something to help pass the time. Often your local paper will have those types of things in them. Assuming of course, you still get a local paper.

Might also be a web site that you print them off of.
