Let me ask you this Case, do you think the dollar will devalue?

I think inflation will keep going higher, so in that sense yes. I think we have to see what happens to the economy when interest rates are raised. I'm sure they will raise the rate, about have to. Look where we're heading now.
We can again be energy independent.

Well I believe it will be greater coupled with one of the top oil producing country's in the world going to war hence my warning to buy gas now if you are able. So call in to co-op tomorrow don't know how much is in the tank but I'll top her off. Don't see our economic situation getting better fast enough to offset the cost of the lost world wide production. And even if they don't go to war I don't see our economy getting better anytime soon.

Just read in the news that 3 big oil companies declared the boom in the Balkan field in North Dakota has matured and the new big boom will be west Texas. The oil companies keep oil prices where they want it base on oil being sold in the rest of the world. They are out to make as much money as they can. Plenty or price gouging going on also in all sectors and every market.

Trapper 7 you need to get educated on how the oil companies work and what causes the markets to fluctuate. Also the XL pipeline is running oil. Biden shut down the extension and even if he didn't, it would not yet be completed. The Colonial pipe line hack had a lot to do with prices especially in the Midwest and east coast. As for the extension of the XL I myself had issues with it, when you start condemning private property so a multi billion dollar corporation can make more money and lower your gas bill. I have problems with that also the potential environmental concerns which had all ready occurred with the XL. Maybe you should petition the powers to be to route the pipeline across the land of 10,000 lakes it would be real cheap no digging in your back yard. There are a lot of things that go into oil production. Not a Biden fan, but I understand its easy to put all someone's woes on president.

Under Trump we became practically oil independent. Biden did away with much oil mining in the US. Pipelines are considered one of the safest ways to transport oil. Shutting down the Keystone pipeline was just the start of his curtailing the use of fossil fuels. That was on day one of his presidency. Our drilling for oil caused a flooding of the market which caused prices at the pump to lower under Trump. I have no idea what you were paying for gas where you live during the Trump presidency, but where I live it was around $2.00 a gallon. Today, on my way to work, I noticed it was $3.39 a gallon. Due to the Russia/Ukraine issue or something else?
BTW, ever hear of the MN Endbridge pipeline?

Re: Gas prices - 02/17/22 05:52 PM
The price of crude oil is determined in a very transparent futures market. It is aptly named because it is participated in by traders who are anticipating/guessing what will happen in the future. One of the most vociferous posters on here knows just enough to not understand that he doesn't know very much. People objecting to new pipelines have obviously never seen a map showing all the existing pipelines in the United States.
Posted By: Trapper7
Re: Gas prices - 02/17/22 07:25 PM
In MN they were removing a pipeline that has been in since the 60s to replace it with a new one. To my knowledge, there had never been any accidents with the old one. They felt it was time to replace it because of the age.
Pipelines do require maintenance or repair. We had a connector line with a bad section. To remove and replace would have cost $$$$. We got a plan approved to run a smaller pipe inside. The fix worked for $$.
Savell - you are certainly correct! Turn to the right and keep it going. It is 2 miles away from my house and I can hear the rig at night.

Europeons. Executive orders
I have been testing the gas. Honda eu generators don't like it. Bravo 2 strokes like it. So far.
Definitely worried about octane loss.
Might have to look into octane boosters?
I have unintentionally bought some really bad gas before. In Canada bought gas that made the outboard run at about half power. After a week found a remaining full tank from home. What a difference. In a different isolated area, before leaving town filled the second gas tank on my truck. Later switched to that tank and within a few minutes conked out with plugged fuel injectors.
Maybe a conditioner of some sort that is know to reduce varnish, octane booster, and an extra fine filter that will also clean out water. The local parts store even sells a lead additive. Circulate the additives, then let it settle. When dispensing, avoid pulling from the bottom of the tank.
Hopefully you can salvage it!

Article in WSJ today says in the past the White House asked the US oil companies to drill more to offset reductions or refused increases by OPEC to reduce gasoline prices. Exactly. The cure for low prices is low prices. When everyone was ecstatic gas was 2 bucks oil companies were losing their hind end and 6oil field companies went under or had to consolidate. Also many companies credit status went junk and they are using profits to rectify that.

Re: Gas prices - 02/18/22 06:38 PM
There is a fairly good chance that we will see the price of oil decline for a while.
I think that the fact that parties are still "talking" about Ukraine will cause price of crude to fall....it already is..... It was 96$ on monday and briefly dipped below 90 this morning.
Also, Biden is still "negotiating" with Iran on the nuke treaty. We all know how that will end. Biden will cave, Iran will lie and develop nukes anyway, and Biden will lift all sanctions on Iranian oil. That will drop the price of crude a bit more.
On the flip side, insufficient investment in exploration and development will.....IMO.......continue to result in a deficit of supply relative to demand.......especially if economies continue to open up.
So while we might see crude drop in the short term, I still think it's possible that we see triple digit crude at some point this year.

White - I agree completely with your explanation of the interaction of politics, economics, supply/demand, and the petroleum industry interacting to determine gasoline prices. You are a very knowledgeable investor and economist, have you also ever worked in petroleum?
In addition to political and financial understanding, I have been involved in petroleum at least part time for most of my adult life -since age 15.
Few people understand that before they can pump a drop of gasoline there must be exploration, development, production, transportation, refining, and distribution. All phases must be successful and in order to continue - profitable.
Where I am involved, there is current renewed development of the well known deposits of wet gas - the natural gas pushes the oil to the surface so pumping is not necessary.
A few years ago, a state of the art $4billion electric generating plant was built in the area. Local natural gas keeps it humming.
It takes intentional effort to damage the use of the natural resources with which we have been blessed. “Oil is evil, we must use only wind and solar, so please pump more oil!”

The recent movement downward in crude oil prices has everything to do with developments in Iran. OPEC is already reaching out to Iran to entice them into the OPEC+ production agreement. I think White is correct. In a couple years Iran will have nuclear weapons and no sanctions on their oil industry. Another "win" for the napper in chief.

Those are normal fluctuations. Production is on the rise in the US again. If market forces remain the same it will most likely go over 4 dollars when summer blends and increased driving kick in
Nearly all, or at least the vast majority of the Marcellus Shale and Utica shale oil and natural gas deposits in Ohio are located on private land. So the issues from leasing through exploration, development, and transportation are issues of contract between the landowner and the well owner and/or operating company.. After that, what happens is in the discretion of the well owner subject to regulation by the state Division of Oil & Gas management. The federal government divested control of oil and gas leases to the individual states. Of course what happens on federal land is subject to the federal rules.

Not if we could pump up our own crude oil here on the home turf. We could even export LPG and oil to Europe and work on getting the debt down somewhat. But that would be good for this country and Brandon and his ilk can't have that. Makes ya sick just thinking about it

There was a time when stations raised their prices based on the last delivery they received. Now they jack the price the instant it goes up. Every station in town acts in concert, there's no price difference between gas stations here. They call that collusion.

Exactly. But, he would never do that because it would be admitting that Trump was doing the right thing. And it would upset Brandon's plan to force prices up so the consumer will be forced to purchase electric cars. I wouldn't be surprised if Putin bought him off.

"What we know from experience is that oil and gas prices remain cyclical, connected to the global secular business cycle and amplified the relatively lengthy time scale that it takes to bring on incremental oil and gas production capacity and export facilities. As just took place in 2021, periods of strong global economic growth lead to increased oil and gas demand. As the world waits for new investment, oil and gas prices tend to push higher, leaving the global economy more susceptible to price shocks, which geopolitics often delivers. The latter can then plant the seeds for recession, which, in turn, lowers demand and brings prices down again. In addition, high prices drive a shift to alternative fuels. It is a cycle that has repeated itself many times since the mid-1900s, sadly often against the backdrop of wars involving major oil exporting countries."

Hogwash.
The cycle goes with idiots putting idiots in to run our country.
This "cycle" can be described in history as the green new deal cycle.
HERE IN OHIO, the petroleum reserves are primarily under private lands. For most of 2021 there has been increased activity. This is what is happening RIGHT NOW:
Hundreds of high capacity oil and gas producing wells are operating.
Many new wells are being drilled.
In the area where I am most familiar, 6 new well pads (well site facilities) are being built. Each pad has the capacity to host 8 or more directional wells.
Electricity is generated using local natural gas to power a state of the art generating facility.
There are massive petroleum reserves on accessible deep levels. This is only about one area of one state over one reserve. Other areas, states, and oil reserves are massive as well.
WE THE PEOPLE have plenty of petroleum to be energy independent now and for a loooong time. That allows plenty of time for alternative energy sources to be developed using our own people and resources.
So, as I have previously said, “Drill baby, drill!”

Re: Gas prices - 03/04/22 05:59 PM
The American oil industry will respond with more drilling. People who are under the impression that we have huge reserves of oil are misinformed. We do have fairly large reserves of natural gas. Both are a drop in the bucket compared to reserves in Russia and the Persian Gulf region.

Last time it went over 4 bucks a gallon, it was also self inflicted.
Demand rising, inflation rising and we decide to hinder production. Nice.
KK I thought the US was 11th in the world in reserves with about 36 billion barrels and Russia has a little better than double that. With us getting production of about 12 million barrels a day which is less than 500 million barrels a year wouldn't we have 70 years worth or so? Natural gas based on current consumption we have over 80 years worth. Electric cars should be doable by then.

I went to the Wawa and was talking to an old guy filling up beside me. He said the the Wawa jumped their gas price to $4.19 yesterday while the Exxon/Mobile kept it at $3.95. He said cars were lined up down the street, folks emptied them out of all grades if gas and diesel in one day.

Re: Gas prices - 03/04/22 08:34 PM
Rat 12 MM BOPD is over 4 BILLION barrels per year. The US would need a robust drilling program to maintain production at that level for any appreciable amount of time. I think your reserve estimate for oil is definitely in the ballpark. We probably have 100+ years worth of gas. I wouldn't get too twisted up about fuel prices yet. If the Russian oil is kept off the market, the price increases are just getting started.

Re: Gas prices - 03/04/22 09:40 PM
The bipartisanship breaking out after Russia's invasion of Ukraine is extending perhaps a little too far for immediate White House comfort.
A bipartisan group of senators -- extending across a true ideological spectrum -- is pushing a new bill that would halt Russian energy imports. They are arguing that with Russian President Vladimir Putin using "energy as a weapon of war," the U.S. should be acting in like it -- in ways that hurt Putin more than boycotts of vodka or caviar.
The White House, though, isn't ready to go there. Press secretary Jen Psaki said sanctioning Russian gas and oil could cause a shortage that is counter to U.S. strategic interests, warning that it "would raise prices at the gas pump for the American people."
Banning Russian imports might also increase pressure to expand domestic energy production. That's a major concern in the environmental community, with progressives worried that the current crisis could force backsliding on climate goals.https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/rus...4eBOxRnwM1DV7rYWSJCty5eEVMsNPSBiZ7ZgKmYQ
