Caught several that weighed 45 on accurate scales, the biggest weighed 45 after a week frozen whole outside. I assume it lost a couple pounds but can’t say for sure. All within the last couple years.

52lb. male, hounds bayed it after a long run. Tall and leggy, weighed it on a UPS scale. Late 90's.

Re: Heaviest coyote - 02/23/22 10:01 PM
I have personally never gotten a Coyote that went 40 lbs. I have taken several 38-39 lbs. I mounted a 52 pounder for a customer once, and I saw a whopper while calling that was huge, but missed it, and like they say......what's hit is history, what's missed is mystery!

Re: Heaviest coyote - 02/23/22 11:15 PM
so i kept track about 10 years ago for three years on my coyote weights so this year pups(or what i believed where)avg weight was 37 lbs the next group which looked bigger i put down too being two years old or more but avg weight was 42 lbs had at least one or two every year bottom the 50 lbs scale out biggest i ever killed was 69 lb giant that was running across the field towards my hounds that where running we weighed it on a bathroom scale
Never weight any , but guessing I would say close to 50 lbs is the biggest
Maybe more my wife is 5'2" and you can see it is a big coyote.

Kevin I have them biggins down here to. Seems like every time I move to a new spot I’ll pick up a big male. Killed many 42 - 47lbs. Get a few that bounce on that magic mark. Biggest one I ever caught was the second yote I ever caught. Back in 1979 in a victor #2 square jaw. Weighed on the certified grocery store scales. 50 plus we’ll just leave it at that. Didn’t even have a camera back then.

Don’t get many, coyotes average 25-35 pounds here. Have caught a few over 50. These three males were all caught in the same bait. The normal color one was just over 50

Man, you guys are crazy. I've caught 8 yotes and the biggest one was like 30 pounds. But I am down here in the low desert, not sure if that makes much of a difference.
This big old one eyed coyote was a bit over 50 pounds

I'd be more curious the heaviest flesh and dried pelt.
My little Brothers one and only coyote, he shot with 270.
He brought it to my job and asked if I'd skin it for taxi, I said sure.
He said after the drag out it had to go 50lb.
I weighed and shinned it.
Before this he had ooo ahhh and pic session with his neighbors.
Later I grinned and said nothing as the pics swam the web, here included.
People had the thing weighing from 25-50 lbs.
It weighed 32 lbs.

49 pounds. Had a huge head and gut and barely any teeth left so old I’d assume.

Always enjoyed seeing your barn shot as every year as you always had some of those huge coyotes hanging in the picture. They have to be another sub species coyote they have coyote feet not wolf feet, guessing those big one foot size must be 3.5"? Do they have a 18" to 20" stride?

I didn’t measure the foot size of the big ones or the stride but I would say you are close, I’m guessing around 3” and the stride sounds close. I will measure the next good set of tracks I come across.
Sadly I won’t have a barn picture this year since I didn’t set any traps, had some stuff to do around home but I will be back at it next year for sure.

Caught a 53# coyote several years back. Pouring down rain that morning so he was muddy and soaking wet. Teeth were well worn. Got him tanned and he is stretched out on the mantle.

Lots of big coyotes out there...you guys ever consider the GOOD that we are doing for the nearby communities? As surely these big son of a guns would be causing issues...

Re: Heaviest coyote - 02/26/22 02:04 PM
This one was 60# if memorie serves me correctly.
To what MChewk just said, yes.
My biggest were from one group that acquired a taste for beef.
One cow then two calves before I got five coyotes from two sets in thirteen days.
Other sets untouched.
(Amazing how we remember some stats)
It is unknown how the cow was initially killed but it stopped after trapping.
The calves were coyote killed.
