Fisher Color Grades - 03/18/22 09:38 PM

Anyone in the know, can you explain fisher color grades. It seems they have more variations then any other animal. So what is the preffered color and what is the corresponding grade. I’m confused. Thanks

The preferred color varies from year yo year, depending on what the fur trade wants. I do not know what color they want this year.

Clarity is more important than colour.

I find the most valuable color is always the fisher pelt that is least pretty to me. Lol

I only caught five this year because I didn’t wish to catch a whole bunch but every one is a different colour.

In grading fur, clarity refersto the amount of reddish or yellowish brown tint in the underfur of the back..
Clear fur has a steel gray/blue underfur with no yellowish or reddish band.
The varying amounts of yellow/red in the underfur is sorted out as slightly off, off, and badly off and the worst is designated as stained.
