I'm a picky reader.

If it has:
  • pictures
  • charts
  • lists
  • formulas
It stands some chance I might pick it up.

Re: Any book readers? - 04/03/22 08:50 PM

Read more in Feb and March but try to read a book or two every month.

And now that my memory is going, I can reread old books and they're new to me!

Working on 1150 pages of Jack.London.
Really enjoying some of his short stories.

Re: Any book readers? - 04/03/22 09:12 PM

I love reading. I prefer fiction but read some non-fiction... mainly history or outdoor related but sometimes political books. Non-fiction books take me longer to read I guess because they don't hold my attention as much.

Currently reading the Cormac McCarthy Border Trilogy after someone mentioned it on here. Also reading Farming the Woods, again at the recommendation of someone on here, lol.

I'm still wading through the Gulag Archipelago... and I read Unintended Consequences once a year. A lot of Robert A. Heinlein... Starship Troopers and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress are both good.

Osborne Russell's Journal of a Trapper is one I pick up and read again from time to time... Along with the journals of Lewis & Clark.

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King... King is a left wing idiot so I buy his books second hand.

I also listen to various audiobooks on YT during my commute.

And just for Rob... the Bible.

Border trilogy rawks, great read!! Thanks for mentioning that. Every time a reading thread gets started People mostly mention horrible books. I mean 95% are terrible…and you thought you were picky lol. For a list of books any self respecting, discerning reader will devour, nah never mind. Read this and don’t fret about the Ukraine or wonder why.

Nah, doesn’t count Mike. It has to be only the Bible. Not other books. I remember Brian used to reply and a few others. They only read the Bible.

Brian hasn't been on for nearly two years. what made him quit?

Re: Any book readers? - 04/03/22 10:57 PM

Not sure! I know he was starting a couple businesses. So maybe that. He did rage quit a few times and come back like he never quit and would argue that he didn’t quit.

But, two years might be real.

Same here. I love reading good fiction. I'll read non-fiction, I'm currently reading Abandon Ship after a recommendation here on Tman. It's one of the more detailed and factual accounts of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. It's interesting but I'm not burning through the pages and staying up late to read an extra chapter like I would be if it were a good fiction I was enjoying.

A really good fiction book, you don't worry a about staying up to read an extra chapter. You find yourself at 2:00am wondering where the time went.

Scalps and Tomahawks by Frederick Drimmer .Anybody that wonders what it was like for our ancestors on the eastern frontier fighting and getting caught by Indians during the French and Indian War era will find this book fascinating.True to life narratives by pioneers that escaped captivity and torture.

I also read on a Kindle. Probably 75 books per year. The majority of my reading is non-fiction though I slip in a classic every month or so. Rereading Old Man and the Boy Now. Will finish tomorrow. Basketball tonight. The Kindle is easier on my old eyes, and the backlit screen makes it possible to read in a deer stand. Not as bulky noisy as a paper book. Always fits in my jacket pocket.
