Wanted to look them over.Very impressed.Good strong trap and nice crisp firing system..Am also very impressed with the mb alphas as well.

Question I have is on the mb alphas. Is there suppose to be a click when a person levels the pan? I'm not getting that click.

Anyone know if the mb alphas are suppose to click when the pan is leveled?

I don't own any alphas, but the description says night latched, so I would assume yes, there should be an audible click when the pan is set.

If It's just a bump on the dog you may not hear the click as It moves.

Aren't the Alphas dogless ?
MB site says so.
That is a very dody sear engagement at the step. You might need to tune that up with a file, then adjust as necessary.

Been running a dozen all winter, no click, no problems. Caught a lot of coyotes in them.

It would be difficult to produce a sharp corner in a casting.
I'm sorta surprised they actually used that photo for their advertisement.
But you can clearly see how it is intended to work.
The milled dog and sheared sheet metal of the dog type is a much more "clicky" arrangement.

The duke 650 is a great trap IMO.

I sure wish Duke would have made them with a 6" inside spread.

Thanks for posting! Those Dukes look pretty good! The PIT setup works really well, the round dogs are great. The ALPHA trap that was passed around at the Fallon sale didn’t have a definite click on the night latch. It dropped in more by feel but you could surely tell when it engaged. The MB is also nice.

In my opinion the biggest con to the 550 is it has the base of a #3 trap but the jaw spread of a 1 1/2. I like the looks of the Alpha because they took that base and put #3 size cast jaws in it. When I looked at the Duke 650 they have the same issues as the 550s. I thought it would be like digging a trap bed for a wolf trap with #3 size jaws. In lose soil it's a non-issue but in frozen ground it would be a big draw back in my opinion.
