Waterfowl pics - 04/09/22 03:15 PM

Good times in the duck slough. Ice is finally off and the big push of migrating waterfowl is coming thru.

Do you sell any of your photos to magazines or publishing houses...? You probably could!

Is the last pic a Golden Eye? I don't think I've ever knocked one down in this state. Then again, fall colors are what they are, sometimes hard to tell without other factors, such as the bills or eye color.

I’ve sold a few prints to a few people who have asked, but haven’t pursued that avenue very hard yet.

Yes, that’s a drake Goldeneye, decoy is one that I carved and had a good friends dad paint for me. He has now passed and I have been trying for a couple years to get this picture for him.

Here is a couple more photos from the encounter.

Lovely shots, Tray.

So fun to see this quality again, several on here now posting great shots. All we need back in now is Twinkie, aka Coonyote and his shots, whom Jonathan also mentored.

Thank you for sharing.

Nice pics and nice Barrows decoy. I don't have any stuffed ducks, but if I bagged one of them I'd get it mounted

Cool pictures, Tray. I noticed the two goldeneye species as well. Did you carve both?

Varmitshooter........this isn't 100%, but Lesser Scaup have a purple tint to their heads, Greaters are green. I always tell folks to remember "Green is for Greater!" The lighting has to be good to even see either birds head color. They mostly just look black unless lit up well.

Greater's are also called Skull caps because of the crest of the spring drakes

I carved a dozen Goldeneye decoys, most of them I painted myself except for a couple Barrows which I only take out for these occasions. All the commons I painted myself and I worked hard to make sure they didn’t show up in the pic, I’m a terrible artist. LOL

Yes the scaup is a Lesser, the Greaters are fairly uncommon there this far west.

Great photos as everyone has stated. I do not think I have ever seen wing positions like those in your goldeneye photos and I shot quite a few on Lake Superior. Your bird was braking really hard to set down.
