Ever since Dale Earnhardt died at Daytona.

Nice younger picture of Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.

Re: The mess that is Nascar - 04/21/22 12:30 AM

They ruined that sport. By the mid 90's it was over. The beginning of the end was restricter plates.

I watch it no more

Re: The mess that is Nascar - 04/21/22 01:04 AM

Watched it all the time during the eight years I was living in Virginia.

It's been 15 or more years for me

Re: The mess that is Nascar - 04/21/22 01:12 AM

Never watched it. Turnd down a day at Daytona 500 for a day by myself at the beach when I was 13. So even as a kid it had no draw for me. How could it and yet another left turn and 20+ cars all with the same equipment.

When Big Bill France died, and idiot Brian France took over is biggest reason it went bad. There's a bunch of others, like radial tires. But Big Bill dying is number one.

NASCAR today is different, and much better, than it was 20 years ago.

C. Bell just finished 4th and Bowman finished around 7th in a winged sprint race on dirt.

Lots of talent in NASCAR if they could get their ducks in a row.

NASCAR died with Dale! Earhnhardt was NASCAR!

That's all I ever hear^^^, but how was Earnhardt Nascar? Most guys I know use it as an excuse to quit watching. Almost like they were afraid it would hurt their man card points if they didn't have a reason to stop watching.

Nascar started to lose me even before Earnhardt died.
But then, I'm old enough to remember when he was the new kid

I spent WAY too much time at dirt tracks growing up.

Funny thing, Nascar, on a way, got it's start in MD.
We had an insane amount of dirt tracks here back in the 40s and 50s.
Bill France raced here as a kid, growing up.
Even on the old, wooden " board tracks".

He moved to Florida, and the rest is, as they say, history.

Reds Kagle was a fixture at local tracks until he passed.
He had a sorta bad wreck 60 years ago.
Some of you old timers may recall him.

Elmo Langely was around a lot too.

I tried to stick it out, but after the Bubba deal and his accusations I gave up. NASCARs reaction to the deal made me sick. I’ll never watch it again

There is no shortage of talent on the track currently. They are so refined in presentation and speaking there is an assumption they know very little about building cars unlike the vintage group of drivers.

I give the racing so far this season a 2.5 out of 5.

Not quite that old but I remember a paved Dover and wooden bleachers that held about 3500 people. lol

I think NASCAR has always sucked, Stock car racing was much in the AAA. Earnhardt was a very over-rated as a driver.

I gotta say, that Kyle Larson is stunningly phenomenal. Guys that can do what he does in a race car only come around about once every 20 years or so. You won't get to witness much his talent watching him race jalopies, though.

Nascar has no draw to me. When I hear a loud car, I assume there is something wrong with it. Gives me a headache...

Kyle Larson couldn't wash Dale Earnhardts car compared to Dale.Lead, follow or get out of the way

I have no idea how well Kyle Larson does at washing cars. Does that really matter? Dale Earnhardt couldn't ride a cushion if it was six feet wide.

You might want to check out some of Larson's in-car camera videos on the utubes - the ones where he drives racecars - not some roley-poley, overweight, underpowered, turtle car.

Yup those turtle cars are easy to drive. Look how many wins those open wheel guys Kinser, Blaney and Montoya rang up when they drove them.

Larson is a racer, make no mistake about that. Other things in life, he might not measure up, but as a racer he's top of any list.

From midgets at the chilli bowl when hundreds of the best professional midget drivers are there, to winged sprint race against the world of outlaws to the allstars which are the very best sprint car racers in the world to non-winged sprint cars against USAC's best to dirt latemodels against the very best touring drivers, he's won at them all in the last year or so.

He made his dirt latemodel debut at Port Royal against the Lucas oil series and was going for the lead on the last lap when he hit the fence, finishing 3rd, to winning the next night on his second ever start. Impressive to say the least about his talent driving ANY racecar against full timers in their genre.
