What a mess !!!!!

What a mess !!!!! - 04/21/22 03:56 PM

Boy`s I just got off the phone with SMKW . Do y`all realize that CASE XX no longer makes a yeller handle , CV ( carbon bladed ) , Muskrat pocket knife .
I have always bought a handful at the time . I gave my last new one to my Dad a couple week`s back , his looked like 2 toothpicks .
A sure sign of what this world is coming too . On a brighter note it could not have gone to a better fellow , even if I had known the supply situation it would have been his either way .
Just goes to show that we cant even take the simple things for granted .

Is the muskrat a small version of the yellow handled trapper knife?

Who cares what colour the handle is?

Re: What a mess !!!!! - 04/21/22 06:20 PM

Yea, what does the color have to do with a good knife? Is it’s nostalgic thing?

They may not be in production but if they exist I'm sure a dealer somewhere has one. Tell me the numbers on the tang and let me look around.

Actually, all of their knives.

The auction sites are full of case knives, including yellow handled muskrats. They are pricey on the big auctions, but often dirt cheap at the small online auctions. One of the big Ohio Auction sites sells many thousands of new, old stock knives, untouched in the box, per year.

Yea DaveP, if you look the tang stamp has SS that's stainless, he's looking for carbon steal blades. Softer but much easier to sharpen. If he'll say what the tang stamp is and if they exist I'll try to find him one. Don't know if lightning s or round s, dots, or what he wants exactly. Got a few connections, got more than a few doubles and triples of some models in my stuff. I'll do my best to help a fellow trapper. He's in the heart of the pocket knife collecting world where he is. May be a hard thing to find.

Do you know anything about a white handled Case Christmas pocket knife with snowflake bolsters? Probably late 2000s?

I would look into shepherd's hill cutlery out of Missouri I believe. They have a nice paper catalog to browse with exclusively Case brand pocket knives. Not cheap but they have an insane collection.

Tony's Knives and Collectables in Bronston, KY :606 561-7046 would be a good place to check, he literally has thousands of Case knives in his shop both new, used, and vintage. He also has a lot of contacts and seems to be able to get anything you want, he is a solid stand up guy that you can deal with without worry.

Re: What a mess !!!!! - 04/22/22 03:25 PM

Canecutter, OK. They did make a short run of those Damascus carbon steel muskrats but no need to spend a mortgage payment for a daily user. Next step for me is to contact a few salesmen, let them check there clients and find out if someone still has one in stock. Sometime a small town hardware store or sporting goods or bait shops. I'll be out today, I'll look upstairs this evening see what I can find. The box end is good info. Fingers crossed.

Do it best hardware stores have a decent selection of case knives in my neck of the woods.

Re: What a mess !!!!! - 04/22/22 03:54 PM

The case pocket knives I see sell at auction, unused in the box, mostly sell for $5.00 to $15.00 each. Large groups of Case knives, without the box, sell for about $2.00 each. How much is a typical new, old stock, Case 1 or 2 bladed pocket knife worth? A high percentage of estate sales have 1 to a few Case pocket knives and some have literal hundreds.

Case pocket knives seem to start at $45-55$ @ my locally owned gun store that I go to once in awhile.

Where would be a good place to sell Case knives?

The one auction i follow has 18 Case knives for $22.00 and 10 Case knives, 5 in the package still for $20.00. I am sure they will go up still, but probably not much.

Are there some styles to look for and some to avoid?

Re: What a mess !!!!! - 04/22/22 04:37 PM

Keith C, I would look into selling @ a knife show. Or maybe a trappers convention or some kind of prepper show.
