Any shed hunters out there? - 04/23/22 04:36 PM

This is the result of my boys and I hiking hard for 7 days over Easter break minus the real doozies that are in the cab. [Linked Image]

I used to. The biggest problem here is the grass is already getting high by the time they start dropping.

Impressive! How much ground did you have to cover, and how much time invested in those? Looks like you guys know what you're doing.

I hardly ever find a single shed antler when looking for them. I walked about 8 miles this year lookin for them. Not a single shed but did find 3 dead heads. I find most going around fence in the spring or just accidentally stumble upon them accidentally. [Linked Image]

does your dog help find them? found half a nice 8 ptr. last year, & hunted high & low for the other side but didnt find it. i read dogs can be trained to retrieve them.

Most of the snow is gone now, can get started. Won't get that many here though.

Most people sell them. Dog chews, knife handles, buttons, lots of things to do with them.

Nice brown elk antlers are bringing $18.00 per pound. An average elk antler side can weigh 3-6 pounds. Nice chunk of change for the seller.

Trapstickman hunted sheds for a long time before he ever got one:

You guys have some dandies. Trapstickman needs to be schooled on the different varieties available.

I do a lot of looking in the spring but usually am unsuccessful. I can rationalize by saying that the small ones take the most skill to locate:

This is a really nice set of sheds. I seen them from the road as I was driving by. Every time I see where deer cross the road and jump fences I slow down or stop and look.

We find mostly whitetail at home but find a mix when we travel to see family.
I’m not Les though.

My 11 year old found a medium size whitetail shed today while we were out turkey hunting. It was not chewed very much at all surprisingly.
