The second day

Posted By: Pawnee

The second day - 04/29/22 07:46 PM

I’m half way through the second day on the tractor without my beloved chewing tobacco. I had my last dip Good Friday so I’ve made it two weeks but I’ve been pretty anxious about my first few 12-16 hour days on the tractor. So far so good. Just wanted to post this as a bit of encouragement to someone that might be thinking about kicking the can. If I can do it anyone can. Dipped 34 years from 13 to 47. Ask the wife daily now what it’s like being married to a guy that had one flaw and now has none Lol

I just don’t think you know me well enough Mark. Plus the wife hasn’t disagreed yet. She rolled her eyes about something after I said it but I think she had something in them.

Re: The second day - 04/29/22 10:47 PM

Good job Brad. I started real young and have quit about a dozen or 2 times in my life. I love the stuff but luckily it's not as hard for me to quit as it is for most. I haven't bought a can for probably 5 years. Couple friends know how much I love it so they let me bum a tiny dip here and there. Maybe 4 or 5 a month. If they find a simple cure for cancer or when I'm feeling old enough that it's an out of control slide the rest of the way down the hill I'm headed to the store for a couple rolls of Copenhagen.

The over indulgence of sweets is now almost as bad as the chew was now for me......

I used to chew Red Man but couldn't afford to today if I wanted to. That stuff is close to $20 a pouch.

Keep after it, you can beat it.

I should quit. No doubt. Been chewing leaf tobacco for 42 years.
I don’t chew in the house, but I ain’t in the house much lol.
I have no willpower for that sort of thing.
Been chewing Bowie for several years now. Ever since Redman got totally out of hand in price.
Bowie is $30 for a case of 12 packs.

Re: The second day - 05/01/22 01:30 AM

I quit for good in 99. Used to crave it for about ten years, but now I don't and haven't for a long time. Be around folks that chew anything, don't bother me in the least.

i got me a new glock back in the winter, can't remember the number, maybe a 33 or something like that. CC gun, for occasions prolly coming up one of these days!

Re: The second day - 05/01/22 02:13 AM

Good job Pawnee, keep on quitting. I myself quit numerous times. I was hooked for over 30 years and hated myself every time I took a big dip. I even kicked it once for 2 years and went back on it.....mostly Cope, but everything else at times. I then quit around Y2K and would only have a can when I made my yearly December trip to the U.P. to trap Marten and Fisher. I craved the chewing near as much as the trapline! Then, in Dec. of 2007 my All Purpose Boy and I left for the U.P. and I bought a can of Cope and dug right in. Within about 45 minutes we stopped so my boy could coffee up at a convenience store and I got nauseous from the dip! He didn't cut the old man a bit of slack! That right there was the last can I ever bought. Glad I did it and stuck with it til it took. I have zero craving to dip, not like I did for months after quitting. I do, however, get my mouth watering if I happen to be standing near when a fellow pops the lid on a fresh can. My mouth is watering even writing about it. Hang in there.
