Here is one you don't see everyday and I thought the Remington guys may appreciate it. Made July, 1954 and brand spanking new in the original box.

I don't have the will power to leave it unfired or un hunted with. Dandy for sure. Should be in a collection.

I really have a weakness though for used rifles with some bluing gone where rust needed steel wooled off, copper in the rifling, few dents and scratches in the wood. When I see that I know it was somebody's go to rifle.

Beauty Rob. I guided a guy must be 50 years ago who was using one. I remember it because I’d never heard of the cartridge at that time. I haven’t seen or thought of that make of rifle since.
Fun to see so pristine.

current value over 2K a used not NIB sold for 1975.00

used in good shap in more common calibers are getting around 7-800 right now

in 1954 about 150-180 dollars

pumps never really got as big as they should have because you could get a lever for about half the price some old adds had a Rem about 160 while a M94 was 80 in the same add.

it was one of the lesser common calibers

30-06 was around 70% of all of them made with 270 next the only other caliber to be made from 51-81 followed by 308 and 243 being the other most common made from 55-81

257 roberts was only made from 1954 to 1961 in the 760

222 and 244rem being the least common only manufactured a few years

They are only new once. ....So yah gonnah shoot it ...and lose 3/4 of the value ..?

Re: Remington Guys need to see this! - 05/11/22 11:37 PM

I bought one like that used 25 years ago. Not quite as pretty as yours but still in very nice condition. It was a tack driver with Nosler portions. I traded it off as it was to valuable due to the caliber for to keep as I would have dropped it's value greatly from dings and such.
Great find. Super rifle.

Nessmuck, if I came into possession of that rifle it would get shot. I would baby it but it was made to shoot. Value isnt the main thing with me. I wouldn't sell it. One of my kids or grandkids would inherit it when I die.

Re: Remington Guys need to see this! - 05/12/22 02:08 PM

That would go nicely with my other 760's in .222 and .243 calibers and since I have two other rifles of different makes in .257, I have plenty of ammo for it. C'mon, Rob, make me a deal.

It doesn't belong to me, it belongs to a family friend and he is willing to sell it and has a standing offer of $2500.

I have the same gun in 30-06 that my dad bought in 1954 from Sears. He shot his first buck that year when the Wisconsin kill was about 25,000. I have used that gun since 1989, cant tell you how many times I have been on on stand opening day thinking about Dad and a buck showed up. It has killed a bunch

Funny, about ten years ago there were 257 Roberts, 308 and 243 for sale all over gunbroker, way more common to see on there than 270 or 30-06. Growing up the only calibers I knew they were made in was 270 and 06, my dad has a 270 he bought used when he was 12 years old, I used that gun a lot growing up and shot a lot of stuff with it. Bought one just like it off a friend probably at least ten years ago now. I own a lot of rifles but I grew up using one of those pumps and when it comes time to throw up to your shoulder and shoot at something, particularly something running in the timber, that is the gun I want in my hand.

I always wanted one of the carbine models, knew a couple guys who had them, but they are rare to find that anybody is willing to sell.
