Yep it's the story going around for opossums I stole it wink because like opossum eating ticks may happen it's very few, a snake eats rodents but not as many in a year as is implied. Think about it they may eat one and not eat again for a week to close to a month. Then figure in winter in most of the country it does not equal up to a large amount of mice a year. Still probably more mice than a opossum eats ticks.

Not sure how true this is, a friend is a snake guy. I mean many many snakes. He sells to pet shops hundreds of whatever snakes people have as pets. He has been into snakes and reptiles since we were kids, 40+ years. He claims snakes that control rodents is done mainly by younger smaller snakes finding rodent nests and consuming the young, all of them. This was a pro snake conversation with me, I am firmly, wanting nothing to do with them. Not against them, just avoid them....

I agree on snakes being good. The only capital offense is getting into the chicken coop otherwise we coexist.

This

Killed one last year that was right at 7' in the chicken house

Any venomous snake around the house gets a dirt nap too. Mainly copperheads and water moccasins here

When the rivers come up and flood the bottoms, I'll walk the rail berms and collect a few to dump out back by the barn. Keeps the mice/rats down and drives the crazy old woman next door nuts! hehehe laugh

A family joke was that my dad paid the local kids $1 for gopher snakes to release on our farm.....and mom was paying $2 to take them away! laugh

We catch dozens in the peak season with our work and I bring them all back to my place to live. They have to eat too.
