Voting age

Voting age - 06/05/22 04:38 PM

Lotsa talk on raising the age to buy rifles, semi-auto firearms, etc. Plenty of things you can't do until your 21, or even older. Can't rent a car until 25. No right is absolute! How would, or could, it change election results if voting age is 21?
Seems to me the country might see an increase in conservative election winners.

if your not a real adult and voting has consequences that should not be taken lightly yes I absolutely think the voting age needs to go return to 21 where it once was.

the Dems want to avoid that at all costs , any mention of 21 of guns needs to be met with 21 to vote and join the armed services , you are an adult or you are not all this you are for xyz but but not abcdefg is no good

Only people who vote "the right way" should be allowed to vote.

Raising the voting age to 21 would definitely help conservatives, which is why it will never happen. Many many 18 year olds vote democrat until they're out in the real world long enough to become conservative.

I also think that you shouldn’t be able to vote if you move to a different state until you have been there for at least 5 yrs. Transplants have ruined a lot of places.

I would be in favor of going back to 21. That used to be the requirement. Maybe allow active military the privilege of voting at 18.

Back to 18 for everything: military, alcohol, guns, vote
Also a requirement: job, school, or military

21 and you have to own property.

Re: Voting age - 06/05/22 05:22 PM

I don't have a problem with raising the voting age to whatever's but then the age to join the military should be the same. If politicians are going to send you to die for some poophole country halfway across the globe, you should get a say in who that politician is.
As for how raising the voting age to 21 would effect politics..... probably not much, since voter participation in the 18-32 age bracket is pretty low, and they make a small portion of the population.

The owning property thing wouldn't work, for so many reasons.

You would need to define property.

If you're old enough to go to war, you're old enough to vote, drink alcohol and purchase, own and carry any firearm.

Only the 43% of Americans who paid Federal tax last year should be allowed to vote in this years elections. All ballots should have to have both thumb prints of the votet or a notarized waiver attached, that certifies that the voter is missing a thumb or thumbs.

Agreed: If you're old enough to go to war, you're old enough to vote, drink alcohol and purchase, own and carry any firearm.

Some people well over 18 and 21 are still not old enough to buy alcohol. I'm sure we all know some of those people.

I remember drinking at 19 in Nebraska. Since I lived in Omaha, we drove across the river to Council Bluffs to drink at 18. Those were the days! In some respects, I'm lucky to be alive!! Went to Co. State out of high school. We could drink 3.2 beer in Co. The whole campus was surrounded by 3.2 bars! I moved to Alaska in 78 at 21 yrs. old. Drinking age was 19. Imagine bars filled with 19 and 20 year old girls! Woohoo! I believe the insurance industry didn't like the statistics of drinking under 21 and helped push all the states to 21.
I like the idea of changing gun AND voting age to 21!!

Vote early. Vote often on Election Day. Also have reliable transportation to travel to numerous ballot locations. laugh. Just had to. 18 you should be an adult. But now adult hood is 21 to 25 yrs of age. Unbelievable IMO.

Jerry. You don't own the land. You rent it. That's why you're paying property tax.

I have long felt that Military or alternative service should be required for voting rights. Gives a person a sense of duty.

Nope, the gov't is now brainwashing them too, like the schools are doing.

Land ownership, job, actually pay taxes and civics test to vote. I would give an exemption for military service.

Drinking, guns, voting 25. Heck, maybe 30.

I'd be happy with any one of those 4. But especially the civics test!

I remember when I was 17 I had a hard time getting into a bar to see the strippers in ohio with my cousins. They said you had to be 21.
I convinced them to let me in by proving to them I was a Canadian.
Wasnt much the strippers wore pasties and kept their knickers on.

Re: Voting age - 06/05/22 08:49 PM

18 or 21? Heck 125 democrats voted yes on a amendment to lower it to 16 back in March. It failed 125 to 302. Thank God.
