Victor double trigger?

Victor double trigger? - 06/05/22 06:17 PM

My mom, bless her heart, picked this up at an antique store. The tag says Victor double trigger. I think I've seen similar ones at conventions, but know nothing about them. Is it an early stop-loss design? This one has a row of teeth on one jaw, is that factory? Thanks.

I just bought two of those traps in Pennsylvania last week
One was a victor and the guy told me the other one was a
Biggs.

He said they where for catching muskrat.

If I remember correctly he said they where from early 1920s.

The first models were by W A Gibbs and made in the 1920s. Some time in the mid 1930s, Animal Trao Company (Victor people ) bought out Gibbs and continued those traps for a number of years.

There are at least 7 or 8 different models, just minor differences. Very common traps and very little collector value, unless it is a Victor made inMississippi or Canada. The going price, in my opinion, is $5.00 to $6.00.

It is an early stoploss model. When the newer models became available, most rat trappers gave up using the Two Triggers. Though at the Wisconsin convention last year, there was an older trapper that bought every one we had. Said it was by far his most favorite muskrat trap! Wish I had brought more to sell him! LOL

If nothing else, it is a neat wall hanger that is 80 or so years old.

The only difference I can see between the two I bought is the pan.[Linked Image]

Thanks for the info wissmiss. I was able to find it in The Steel Trap in North America, made by Victor from 36 to 55. Designed by Gibbs as a stop-loss trap.

Use the rod to hold open the big jaw? while you set the trap.
Remove the rod after setting the trap.

Found one at a garage sale this summer. Gibbs started making them. Mine says Toronto and 1917 on it. Patent year I think.
