Round 2 of Covid...

Round 2 of Covid... - 06/17/22 02:52 AM

Started last Sunday with sinus congestion. Congestion and drip, followed by a cough, sneezing, and a mild fever, was worse Monday. Thought it was just a summer sinus problem. Wife scheduled me a test Tuesday morning at local health dept. Nurse swabbed nose...10 min later...positive Covid. This is day 5 of sinus congestion, sneezing, and cough. Have not lost taste or smell, but they are muted a little. No fever for past 2 days. I feel OK, but my head continues to feel like I just resurfaced from nearly drowning.

Wife and I were both Covid positive in February 2021. Lost taste and smell for a month. Never had a fever. Mild sinus congestion and cough. She is free of symptoms as of today.

Comparing the two episodes: this strain has caused more sinus congestion and drip. Coughing is about same.

I am NOT vaccintated.

Btw....I think I know where (not who) I got it from this time. Attended a NWTF banquet last Thursday.....lots of contact there......about 200 people there. I was awarded a plaque and a Henry .22 rifle for my service as a GW and effort with the local chapter. Looks like I got more than a plaque and a gun.....lol. The Henry rifle is the "trapper carbine" model....perfect!!! I was humbled. Didnt see that coming.

I noticed several coworkers were hacking their lungs out today. I kept my distance. I didn't even know Covid was going around. I thought Biden cured it, LOL

Lol....me too. Hadn't heard of anyone local for a few months that had it. But, wife tells me she has seen talk of some locals with it on her FB page in past couple days.

Hmmm, been sick for over a week now and on two different antibiotics and still haven’t improved except the sore throat finally went away.

Had doc call me in what he felt I needed. I've got an antibiotic (6 tablets) and cough syrup. 2 more tablets left. Seems like the congestion is much more persistent than b4.

It sounds like covid has sort of just morphed into something similar to the common cold. I think that's great.

Affects people differently. Smokers, diabetics, poor immunity, obese, etc then Covid may kill ya just like the flu might.

It’s odd that this is your second round...should have antibodies from first episode to fight this latest case off. Hope you and others continue to improve in feeling better.

I had it late May also (omicron variety probably), not fun but rest up and make it through. Probably had few abs from the last infection 16 months ago

Re: Round 2 of Covid... - 06/17/22 12:05 PM

Everyone I am seeing with it now is pretty mild. Even the people that should be struggling with it are making it through it without issue. Not sure how many times I've had it and have never tested positive. There was a time in January where I was seeing 4-5 positive Covid's in my clinic daily for nearly 8 weeks. Never wore anything more than a surgical mask I'd wear during a typical flu season.

Congrats on being recognized for your volunteer efforts for NWTF.. There are so many good organizations that are promoting good causes .All of us are busy and there is never enough time to do all the things we want to do . But the dedicated people that are the grass roots of all of the wildlife conservation groups are the reason our hunting heritage still exists here in America .Take care and get well

I honestly didnt know the docs were even testing for it. Last time i was in to a PA has been several months for a sinus infection she told me shes not goin to bother testing for the vid because theres no point. It was refreshing as theres an MD there who tries giving lectures on why youre irresponsible to not vaccinate.

Chewk,
Im sure we do have some antibodies, but Im thinking this is a different strain/variant.

I got a feeling that this is always gonna be here to deal with just like flu or the cold as it's constantly mutating and overriding a person's antibodies. Maybe its getting less lethal when it does that, but the flu does same thing and it's still kills weakened individuals.

As the vaccine becomes more refined and tested, folks that are a higher risk of bad symtomatic infection may want to consider it.....just like the annual flu shot. For me, Im not willing to do that just yet. Ive never had a flu shot either.

I dont think there is much testing. My wife wanted to know and "made" me go to local health dept for test. They still do curbside nasal swab with an appt and its only 1 block from my residence.

My doc wouldnt have tested for it unless I asked. He was only interested in treating the symtoms, which is all that can be done anyway...just like the flu or a cold.

Re: Round 2 of Covid... - 06/17/22 03:07 PM

Thanks for all the info and well wishes.

Except for that lingering nasal congestion, day 6 isn't too bad. Its winding down...just like the flu or a cold does.

I, like many, thought this crap had died out, but it hasnt. Like the flu, it's here to stay and is one of those ailments we all dread getting and dealing with.

Maybe, those on here picked up a little more info on re-infection and will know more about what to expect. If you get tested and are positive, you have to listen to (or read the paperwork about) the "quarantine" time, which is now 5 days instead of 14.

My take = it's about like the flu. Treat it as such.

I'm guessing you can still pick up the new variants to some degree.

I had covid back in September of 2020, and over the next year I twice tested positive for the antibodies. The antibodies eventually wear off, however, memory cell such as T cells develop that just lay-in-wait for the virus to reappear. Then these T cells make antibodies to fight off the virus.

Last spring (2021) I was exposed for several days, in close quarters to someone who had the Delta variant, I took absolutely no precautions. I picked up the first symptoms of a "bug", it lasted just one day, it was almost as if I could feel my body fighting it off.

More recently I have deliberately exposed myself to people with the omicron variant; no symptoms, I'm hoping that my body is doing the natural thing now in order to build up resistance.

It’s what they call it that’s important. I’m pretty sure the next new vaccine will be the end of it. LMAO

The first strain of Covid weeded out the unhealthy. That’s the way disease works.

Re: Round 2 of Covid... - 06/17/22 08:33 PM

Dr Robert Moran stated on the Joe Rogan podcast last winter that the more shots one gets the more likely you will catch Covid.

5000 units Vit D3 at least once a day.
The Quercetin mentioned above increases the availability of the D3 by up to 60%

If you really want to fight of anything viral, purchase some Epicor from Healthy Origins (FDA approved for human use, one a day), and get some Olive Leaf Extract, 500mg standardized to at least 12%. Take one twice a day.

Don't stop just because you feel better. Take it everyday.
