As long as the scrapyards buy them, they will keep stealing them.

I had not heard of grave markers being stolen...but yes, once some people realize that they can steal them and sell them for scrap it's "game on", unfortunately. That could be pretty difficult to stop/police. Yikes.

Local thieves hit a graveyard with copper urns that were twist locked into ground level headstones.

There's a special place in hades for people that pull stuff like that.

The bigger thieves are the ones who buy that stolen stuff.

A good number of thieves have died here trying to steal energized (hot) copper power transmission line from the Mugger Mover Trains. I just LMAO! They also steal the aluminum cover plates off street light poles exposing the 440V lines inside, a few have even been killed doing that. Again, I LMAO.

Catch them in the act and you can bury them on the spot.

Need to supply them with a lead collectors starter kit

The scrap yard I sell scrap to has a long list of items/photos of items that get a police call and grave markers are on the list.

Drug users , seem to not realize just how easy it is to trace certain things .
We had that problem around here a few years ago , they all got busted at the scrap yard .
Catalytic converters are the hot item now.
Hear a lot about trucks that set up high , missing them when they come out of a store or even a house , while parked on the street .
I know scrap yards are supposed to be watching for things like that .
I'm trying to figure out where they get rid of them , if not a scrap yard .
Some one set up a system of removing the platinum, palladium, and rhodium from them in their backyard ?

When I sold the catalytic converters off my old junk vehicles, I presented the titles to the purchaser. They did not care to see them.
So it would seem they purchase many stolen converters.

Any scrap yard that buys such items are just as guilty. And punishable by law. In theory they are buying stolen property. The yards I sell to buy no such items unless you can prove ownership or documentation that the items where surrendered to you by owner. No exceptions period. Best way to do stay in the recycling business
