Josey is the name for her.
A few names I've had or had for dogs.
Juice, Dakota,Remi, Abby, Bailey, Bandit Buffy and
Cindy
Good deal I've had and a Blue Tick and a Red Tick
Both good dog's, coon hunting fools
Blue Lu Barker, after the Nawlins blues singer from the 30s. Could call her blue, or lu, or lulu.

assuming it didn't come with a name it already knows .
you should try a few and see if there is anything she comes too
sometimes you have to give it a few days and see if a fitting name comes to you from their personality.
other than that you should avoid your wife's name .for sure ,

Grandma always said if you find a name you think you like, step out on the back porch and holler it as loud as you can to see how that rolls off your tongue cause that's probably what you'll be doing a lot of anyways.
Penelope has been stuck in my mind the past few weeks and I don't know why.

She's been shelter transferred, so no name really sticks.
Good advice on not using the wife's name... last thing I need is another thing in my house that ignores me.

Ive always let em name themselves. Generally doesnt take but a few days for them to do something or act a way that seals the name.

A name with crisp, hard consonants in it works well for a hunting or any dog as they are typically heard better over longer distances and are easyer to say clearly when shouted loudly.
T is pronounced using the tongue (front part)
K is pronounced using the tongue (back part)
You can speak Katie, or holler KAY-TEE.
Pick something "crispy" that sounds clear over long distances, experiment with a friend to illustrate.
Here is a crispy one to try ... KOL-TON or KRIS-PY
Dogs probably just recognize your voice more so than the actual name.

Always like naming them after places I've been
Minot would be a good female name. Like Minot, ND
Also like really short simple names like Mae or May for a female
Grandma always said if you find a name you think you like, step out on the back porch and holler it as loud as you can to see how that rolls off your tongue cause that's probably what you'll be doing a lot of anyways.
not the best in this case, because it's a boy's name when shortened...
but I always wanted to name a dog "Timber" (Timmy, Tim for short).
Like your grandma said...pretty funny when you step out on the back porch and yell "TIMBER!!!!"

We named a pet using some of the letter of our children’s names. First letter of each and the first two for the beginning. It had lots of potential for any pet I suppose! We came up with “Jobba”.
”
see if it hunts before you name it
Oh wait. You adopted it. Like you would a human. sorry. I thought you bought it and it was property.

Who was it that said " Never put a name to somethin' ya might have to eat" ?
John Wayne, in the movie with the Husband abandoning his wife and kid, and the Indians adopting the woman's son so he can be a warrior? Based on a Louie L'Amour book.

Sure is a nice horse. What's his name?
Luke, Drover:
You don't have to put a name on something you might have to eat.
another good one:
Luke, Drover:
Don't turn your back on me, mister!
Frank Culpepper:
Don't let your mouth overload your hardware, cowboy.
