Sciatica back pain chiropractor? - 06/19/22 05:25 PM

I've been dealing with sciatica back pain for just over a week now. It is much better than it was last Friday but it just isnt going away. Had to take the week off of work. I was able to do a bit of stuff the last couple days, but not for long periods of time. Finally able to sit normal and drive without pain. Have any of you guys got relief from this from a chiropractor? I havent been to one in 3o years but I'm considering it.

I've suffered through many episodes over the years .

I have one of those inversion table gizmos . A teeter I think .

I haven't used it much lately ( back has been pretty good ) but it helped when I was in pain

I usually just push through it , laying on the couch doesn't work

One thing I try to do is , when I wake up in the middle of the night I will stretch an twist my back when the muscles are at the most relaxed they can be . Seems to help

Funny you talk about your sciatica now as I just got relief from mine. My has been getting worse for months, even with weekly visits to my chiropractor. I have an hour drive to work and i would have to stop 3 or 4 times to get out and walk around to stretch, the pain was so intense. I would get temporary relief after a visit. But I was missing some work because of it. (This was an injury I suffered from my time in the Army a 100 years ago) my wife finally told me to go to urgent care at the hospital. Best thing I could have done. They took an MRI and found I have 2 bulging disc's pushing against my nerves. They loaded me up with plenty of anti inflammation drugs. (Now, normally I don't even take asprin) with these meds and a few days of rest I am almost back to normal and have good relief.

Had one severe bout with back pain that took a good two weeks to abate. That was 10 years ago. I have been a lot more careful by working smarter instead of harder. Took off quite a few extra pounds of weight that I was carrying plus I have a Teeter inversion table that seems to really make a difference too. Best wishes to you as I would not wish the pain on my worst enemies.

I'd never let a chiro touch me. I licensed massage therapist can work wonders if you can find a good one.

I suffer from chronic back pain. I can barely get around until I have been vertical for a couple hours.

A toradol injection can bring immediate relief and Prednisone will fix you right up if your doc will give it to you.

Yeah I was on a camping trip and couldn't get out of bed because of the pain 9 days ago. Went to a dr out of state and they gave me the tordal and a methylprednisolone prescription which helped a lot. But now Im stuck halfway better. I dont even know what initially caused it. I think the final blow though was changing the blower motor on my f150. I'm sure tired of it and I have so much work to get done.

I go 1-2x a week to a chiropractor. Been going for many years now as needed. His adjustment works great. It seems the tossing and turning and twisting I do when I sleep has been causing the problem. Still working on the best position to sleep to help stop my problem.

Good point. Whenever I am driving or sitting I take my wallet out. Keeps the torque off your spine.

My doctor recommended physical therapy for my sciatica. She says chiropractors are a temp fix, a bandaid at best, they put it back where it should be, but the problem is it’ll pop right back out. You have to build the right muscles and bulk up in the right way to hold everything in place or you’ll just be going to the chiropractor once every other week for life

Yesterday on Agtalk, a Missouri farmer was asking prayers for his wife who suffered a stroke at her chiropractic visit.
From the responses, I was surprised to find this is a common occurrence.
You may want to do a little research before jumping in.

I had 2 bulged discs, L4 and L5 combined with degenerative bone disease. Was crippled up bad 4 years ago. 60 pounds over weight also. Doc said a big no to bone cracker. Physical therapy including hanging upside down on an incline table. 4 years later I lost about 65#. Still go daily to Phys. Therapy, but on the lightly supervised gym side. Bought a $150 generic Teeter like table for home. I hang upside down 3 nights a week for 3 minutes, tip up then about 3 more minutes, right before bed. As the Old Teeter guy on TV says, "I FEEL GREAT!" Tthe inversion table was a game changer, along with weight loss for me.

Call Bob Ericson here in town and talk to him. If he thinks he can help you, he is across from the fairgrounds. If not, he will likely know who can help you.

Be careful with this issue. If you let someone work on you make sure they are able to definitively know the problem. Otherwise you could be crippled.

Some causes are sitting on a big fat wallet, great sex, working hard, rough sex, a fall, or the great unknown that causes much back injury.

Years ago I broke my back on a boat. They screwed around for two years before diagnosing that two vertebrae were broken. 4 bad surgeries in 9 weeks nearly killed me. Severe pain every day. In 2017 I herniated discs right below the old injury. Now severe pain in low back, hips, and legs everyday.

I have had mixed results.. had a pain in my back bad about the spine and shoulder got the poped and instantly the pain was gone. It was still sore for a few days but the constant nagging pain was gone.

Went to a different one with low back pain got cracked a very loud crack felt a warm tingling in my back. That was when I think. I got my bulging disk.

Year later I went to another one for low back pain she saw I stand with my hips tilted. She worked on it and it felt better but was temporarily.
Had some other issues with loss of balance leg feeling numb and hot and cold sensation reversed in that leg. Cold felt hot and hot cold. Not sure if it was long covid or ms I quit going to the doctor he was just guessing and after 4 months I had to go back to work regardless and I had improved enough I could. Figured I can live with it and if it gets worse I can go back.

My back went completely out during all that. I could not get up off the couch hardly took 5 try's over 20 min two walking sticks and involuntary hollering out in pain. Couldn't get up out of to releave myself took 3 hours to finally achieve that and I only made it to the front door and went off the porch. It was much closer than the bathroom.

Physical therapy taught me stretches years ago. I remember and tried them and felt all better and was able to get up and slow move with 2 walking sticks. In about 4 days I could walk with out them. Went to Physical therapy and it helped. I also keep my bill fold in my front pocket.

Laying on my back and pulling my knee to my chest and holding the stretch was one that really helped.

After that bend one cross it over the strait one and pull that up. It stretches your glut on the out side. Without doing that I would still be Laying in that bed wondering if I was going to end up wetting myself before I could nmanage to get up.

My mom lived to 100. In her 70’s she had back problems. Around 85 she had back surgery that helped her some. When she was 95 it all disappeared.

Hang in there my friends.

Re: Sciatica back pain chiropractor? - 06/20/22 12:59 AM

Four and a half weeks ago I did something to my back at work. I was building a table for an art studio I had just finished remodeling and spent an hour or two sitting cross-legged and lying in my back attaching the legs.

The pain started slow. It was centered on my hip joint and radiated down my leg to my knee. Within two hours it was getting worse I was having difficulty walking. I left work early. The next day it was much worse. I couldn't walk without severe pain for the next several days. Four days later, on Saturday I went to I went to a local Urgent Care. They prescribed Prednisone and Naproxin. As White17 said, the Prednisone works but only masks the pain. I figured I was cured, did a days work and ended up unable to walk again due to overdoing it.

Two days later I went to the ER. They took hip X-rays (all good, nothing broke), prescribed Methocarbmol and advised me to see an orthopedist. I saw him a week later. He took back x-rays and prescribed methylprednisolone.

Each of those three doctors spent less than three minutes with me. Each simply wrote a script and got me out of there ASAP.

My daughter and son-in-law talked me into going to their chiropractor. I called and they booked me for the following day. I called the ortho's office and requested my x-rays which they gave me on a DVD. The chiro sat down with me and actually talked to me for ten-twelve minutes. We examined my x-rays and he explained a lot of stuff then came up with a treatment plan.

He did an adjustment, the some electro massage and finally I spent twenty minutes on an automated massage table.

That night was my first pain-free night since the injury more than two weeks prior.

I went back to work last week, loaded forty fifty pound bags of concrete mix, poured a small conc. pad and began dry laying the cast concrete boulders for a water feature by a pool.

My leg still gets pretty sore. I have another session with the chiro this week and an appointment with a physical therapist. We'll see how it goes with the PT guy or girl.

I'd love to try an inversion table but with both hips replaced i don't thing it is a really good idea.

I have a sciatica flare up about every 3 years. I can not get the cortisone shot because I have myestenia.
My sister is into natural healing. She suggested taking Tumeric vitamins daily.
May just be a coincidence but my last episode I started taking the Tumeric and 2 days later I was fine. Take one daily, urine is neon yellow but knock on wood no more back issues.

Used my dads inversion table this afternoon. I think there might be something to that. Going to do it a few more times. Sitting very comfortable in my recliner now. Hoping to have a good night for sleeping. I really appreciate all the feedback guys.

I really like mine. It was explained to me this way, the discs compress all day while upright, standing walking and lifting. They loose fluid. By inverting right before bed or laying down, the discs are relieved of pressure, and stay that way while laying down or sleeping. Glad you're getting some relief. My Dr. said this is very common in hard working people. Calls it wear and tear disease. once pain is under control, look into core strengthening.
