The Lee book is a good reference. I prefer Lee loading dies and equipment but there will be some that state it is junk but Lee has stood the test of time and have a strong following.

Lee Modern reloading 2nd edition

Go read the first 200 or so pages then the recipes start

come back with any questions you have left after reading those 200 or so pages

it gives you a really solid background on the why to so much of it .

so many books are good for their data but don't cover the why enough.

Really any up to date one is good.
My advice is though is to figure exactly what you wanna do as far as reloading ie making bulk ammo with 2moa accuracy fast for a few of the same Caliber guns or making precision ammo that's tuned to each individual gun. Once you know what your wanting to do starting is much easier

Thanks guys I’m trying to find the lee book seems to be out of stock most places. Swinging by bass pro after work to day and see what’s available.

Wolffog91 just looking to put together some 9mm for the range but I’m sure things will progress from there.

You can’t have too many books on or about reloading.

Re: Reloading books - 06/22/22 02:21 PM

It all depends on what you're looking for when getting into reloading. I started out reloading because factory ammo couldn't produce acceptable groups for me to feel comfortable hunting with it. After seeing how reloading for my .22-250 improved the accuracy so much, I started reloading for my .30-06 for deer hunting - same thing, factory ammo sucked out of that gun. That one took a lot of work figuring out what it liked for handloads, but now that I've got it dialed in, I'm way more confident with it. Then I got into loading for pistol. Now it's mainly competition stuff that I load for, but do still shoot some pistol and hunting rounds here and there. Reloading can be a slippery slope....you might find yourself getting into bullet casting and/or competition, rifle builds, you name it!

I just received a new barrel for a 6 Dasher build last night, chambered for an action that I don't even own yet! Planning on working on a custom rifle build over the next couple of years, and piecing it together over time. The dang action alone is going to set me back about $1,400 crazy - need to save up for that one.

Off topic, but does anyone know of a book that has 6 Dasher loads?

I started with Lee anniversary kit 20 +years ago. Came with the Lee book and everything but dies, powder, primers bullets, and brass. I read it 2 or 3 time and started loading for 270 and 40s&w. First w70 groups were 3/8" and I was hooked. Kit was only$79 back them. Loaded thousands of rounds on that press tell the linkage broke. Moved on to dillion.after that.

That Lee book was great.

the Lee 2nd edition will do you fine for that

as will a Lee classic cast turret it will still alow you to load rife rounds for hunting also

I load 1500-2500 rounds of 9mm a year on the Turret , some days I dream of a progressive and then I get a bad case and realize I can back up and that is one of the biggest complaints of the guy I bough this press used from, he went dillon and he meticulously sorts his brass and cleans every one becuase one that has an issue jams up his high speed ammo making machine. yes he can pump out rounds 4 times faster than I can until gets a 38super case mixed with 9mm brass or a 380 case or a primer won't come out right. so he spends half the time he saves on brass prep.

I like the 125gr acme coated bullets I run the lee 4 dies set but take the factory crimp die out and us a lee taper crimp die instead , factory crimp dies and cast & coated bullets don't work so well together it squeezes them down more than you want

Not all progressive pressed are auto indexed. My 550s are manual and you can back them up easily.
