Who makes Cowboy/Camp coffee? I do

Who makes Cowboy/Camp coffee? I do - 06/24/22 10:58 PM

This, now this is a coffee pot. It's a biggun, 36 cups. In reality more like 25 because it will boil over otherwise. I make a pot and it last me 3 days. No electric, no worries. It's staring down the Mr Coffee, giving it the stink eye lol. Who else makes coffee with no electric or percolator basket?

I do if a percolator or drip pot isnt handy.

fill the pot about two thirds full of cold water. put in a handful, or two in a big pot like that, of coffee. add a pinch of salt. stir it a bit. heat till its almost boiling. dont heat it real fast. when those little bubbles start coming up around the edges turn off the heat. boiling screws up the taste. slowly pour in cold water in a circular motion till the pot is full. grounds will settle to the bottom and the coffee will be just the right temperature for sipping.

thats how my grandad taught me and its pretty good

The only time we did is if we were camping. We cheated a little though be taking two coffee filters and sewed them together with three scoops of coffee in them. Through them in the pot and got it boiling. Didn't need to worry about the grounds that way.

Boiling coffee is a crime.

Coffee press is the way to go. Boil your water, let it cool a tad, add grounds and stir. Let steep for 3-5 minutes depending on how strong you want the coffee then press the coffee. Traps the grounds at the bottom, need a courser ground coffee for this as normal drip grind coffee might slip through the sides of the press. Gives a nice crema to coffee.

I have all manner of coffee making contraptions

the wife is a bit of a coffee addict connoisseur

2 ways to grind beans 1 electric one non eclectic , check

2 percolators

2 pour overs

1 French press

Vietnamese coffee press

1 arrow press no I don't use it but she does some times

and a drip coffee pot 14 cup

it isn't if I am making coffee each day it is if I am making a second pot or not

oh and a big pitcher of cold brew going in the fridge

the V60 pour over has actually been a favorite lately , you don't need the electric goose neck pot that you push on and the temp you want and it beep when ready but I would be lying if I said it wasn't very convenient 205 degrees is the perfect temp to brew dark coffee at

for a light packable way to make really good coffee the V60 https://www.amazon.com/Hario-Craft-Coffee-Clear-Black/dp/B07YQ6LY2S/ref=sr_1_6?gclid=CjwKCAjwwdWVBhA4EiwAjcYJECkTEYxyXjJ1O9VARws8zvfzqPtfLrvS-D9luqLrswLd4-x6MyxozhoCMm0QAvD_BwE&hvadid=241636203263&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9018876&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=5912854598279646120&hvtargid=kwd-134401583054&hydadcr=13988_10211605&keywords=hario%2Bv60%2Bpour-over%2Bcoffee%2Bkit&qid=1656119920&sr=8-6&th=1

you don't need the pot just toss it right on top of the big travel mug and pour the water in through the filter and grounds , if you like really strong coffee this is the way to go

Why make things harder than they have to be….It be like shaving with a Straight Razah …when you could just pick up a piece of plastic razor….lol. If I had 25 people that needed coffee , I’d get a pot like that and make cowboy coffee

Back when I helped cook for a dozen or so scout leaders, that's how we did it. Big pot like that......get water boiling, then turn OFF the heat and dump 2 cups grounds on top and give it a quick stir. Let it steep about 10 minutes......then add a cup of cold water to settle the grounds. Pour off the top and don't swish it around or you got a cup with a pretty good chew.

There was also supposed to be some stunt with throwing in an egg shell too, but we never tried that.

Was on Ky lake one morning just below the hiway 79 bridge. Two older fellas came up to the beach in a boat. They got out and walked over to pick up an old rusty coffee can. I was talking with them and watching to see what they were doing. Got them a fire going lickety split, dipped that rusty old can full of lake water, dumped some Sanka in it and set it on the fire. A few minutes later they pulled two cups out of their boat got some coffee and started drinking it. They asked me if I wanted some, Nope I said, I never have liked coffee.

Had to be the most deperate fellas or the most bad butted men I ever seen.

I do have perculator for when camping, but I don't drink coffee myself. Have made a lot of sassafras tea in it though.

I can't believe you posted this North. So wrong on different levels. Firstly, "glass perc". No, heck no. Glass perc is for northern sissies and jp. Secondly, Les hasn't warshed his coffee mug since the bay of pigs. A body should warsh their mug and pot ever month, whether it needs it or not.

I use a basket at home, and usually when camping. But if I'm packing in, where space is an issue I will pack other stuff in the pot and leave the basket at home though. I boil my coffee because I think it tastes better that way, and I like my coffee hot, those electric drip things just don't make as good of coffee. If you are throwing the grounds directly in the water, don't add as much cold water as some are recommending on here, just a couple dozen drops will settle the grounds without cooling the coffee off too much.

I just turned my coffee down while typing this, as soon as it quits perking I'll pour myself a cup and fill my thermos. Good, almost boiling coffee in a good thermos will stay hot all day. The last cup or two out of the thermos will be down to about the temperature you get out of them electric drip things. . . drinkable but not ideal.

I didn’t see one green stick laid across the spout on any of them pictures, lol . I’ve never tried it but supposedly if you lay a green stick ( twig ) across the spout while it’s perking the pot won’t boil over.

Also anyone know the porpoise of putting an egg in the pot before you boil the water ?
