Anybody know much about the area around anaconda? Leaving tomorrow for a vacation with my parents and brothers and we would like to get in on some fishing. I’m not sure if my brother is bringing his boat or not, but let’s just say we’re gonna be shore bound in case he doesn’t. Also I don’t fly fish. I see in my maps that there’s tons of little creeks, how are those? I’m not afraid to army crawl through thick stuff to get to some good trout fishin on a tiny creek. We all went in together to rent a big a house near Georgetown lake, is it possible to get into some good action from shore there?

Also, I’m sure the wife and kids will wanna do something other than fish for a week and a half straight lol what’s around there for touristy stuff?

This is the one time a year I’ll get to spend time with my brothers, so need to make the most of it.

Anaconda itself isn't much to see but it was the largest open pit copper mine in the US for many years.

Just south of you is the Bighole river..... mostly fly fishing but check the regs. There are lots of small tributaries and lakes around. If you are a history buff you could look at Undaunted Courage about Lewis and Clark. You will be close to the headwaters of the Missouri.... or at least the Beaverhead and the Bighole.

If you ever wanted to try fly fishing..... it would be a good spot to try it.

Travel safe.

Look up big brook trout Georgetown lake Montana on youtube . That Fish will have you throwing jigs till your arms hurt. But I'm sure that video was made in the fall and Trevor the fisherman in it is the most over the top angler I've ever met.

Just heard on the radio this morning that georgetown lake fishing is hot right now and there are a LOT of people there right now also. Not just fishermen. Not sure about shore fishing. Maybe there is a place to rent a small boat but you should take one if you can. Depends on what you like to do as far as what else there is. George Kortum has two large stores in anaconda and would be fun to have a look around there. There is Fairmont hot springs. Look that up. I think most would enjoy that and the kids big time. Also you could go tour Butte and see the World Museum of mining and the mineral museum. There a newer restaurant place in anaconda called O'Bellas and they make pretty good pizza. Friendly family sit down place.

Dig sapphires at philipsburg, clark fork has a 99% fish kill so don't fish there. Rock creek world renowned. Any of the creeks will be fine fishing for small trout. Many creeks and lakes to fish from shore in the bighole valley.Bannock is the first big gold strike and current ghost town. Lots of fires in the bighole last summer, so plenty of morel mushrooms to pick. Dinosaur museum bozeman. Ringing rocks by Butte. Theres 4th of july fireworks and such at the old montana prison deer lodge. Can dig crystal at crystal park in the bighole. I got plenty of shovels to loan you if you need em. Go eat at O'bellas in anaconda. Great pizza and steak.

If you go to Butte go to the Museum of the Rockies. Dinosaurs and history. We spent a half a day there and could have stayed a full day.

since you're from NV, you probably don't know what grass looks like. Come by and I can show you a yardfull, and for a few bucks, I'll even let you and the fam mow some.
