Re: Picking up my new to me vechile tomorrow - 07/01/22 06:24 PM

I can't do that. I remember the last time a german engineer got involved with a smoking diesel...... did not end up to well for VW or him. ..... Yes I'll pull the EPA nonsense out of it and will get better milage than stock . But I am not into the black cloud tung where the turbo is trying to play catch up with the injectors. No point to it really.

I like the Fords, nice truck Scuba. Never had one with a lift kit. When we were young we'd raise em up with a couple hockey pucks

I see a back seat full of tools and a heavy trailer in your future.

I have a diesel ford too. It's a tractor.
Guys tried to razz me. I told how much I have into it and they shut up.

Re: Picking up my new to me vechile tomorrow - 07/01/22 07:19 PM

I'd like to see bigger tires, more proportional to the lift, but it's a nice truck.

Sold my last Ford truck for what I paid for it used, after I put 200k extra miles on it with no major mechanical repairs.

I like Fords. I said I wouldn't own another Chevy after I blew the motor in the 4th one.

Re: Picking up my new to me vechile tomorrow - 07/01/22 07:22 PM

I love that Idea Sharon.

The wheels are mostly within the wells and really do not stick out that much. The guy who owned it must have had some sort of OCD thing going and spent a lot of time not getting the engine dirty or cleaning it

[Linked Image]

The lift on this one os done righted with the right parts as well.
[Linked Image]

And for 11 years old the leather looks pretty good still.
[Linked Image]

Its a Lariat with a few extra extras ......... Stuff i don't really need , but as it is in there anyway I ain't going to throw it out.

Yea and if you can't see what I'm talking about your an idiot. Lift kit didn't raise the axles. The big tires did. Lift kit raised the body which raised the motor so it can go thru higher water...

grin grin grin

You're implying you know a way to increase the ground clearance and that the lift was done incorrectly. Please enlighten us on this

I was making fun of the fact that lift kits don't improve ground clearance! Young guys around here do it but then get stuck in the mud because of the clearance of the axles...

If you didn't sense my sarcasm in my comment I apologize for the reply....

I know there is no place to hang some rags on or a propeller. But at least they filled the bed with sailboat fuel for me.

Re: Picking up my new to me vechile tomorrow - 07/01/22 11:49 PM

I had a friend of mine who is a truck and car nut looking for me. He sent me a TXT this morning and said he bought my truck and needed the insurance stuff so he could drive it of the lot. I got it sight unseen and He sent me the pictures after the fact. I had to that point no idea what it was going to be. Chevy Dodge Ford..... and I did not really care as long as my parameters were met. I said get me a Diesel 4 door truck. He also had my max budget.
I like the cummins engine better than the ford, but dodge can't build a transmission to save their life. I know how to work on diesels and have not much of an idea on Transmissions. So this worked out just fine for me.
The most problems that the 6.7 seems to have involve the EPA exhaust and fuel system..... well that stuff is going to be next to the truck in short order anyway and wrapped up in a tarp. Problem #1 solved.
I had an inkling that I was going to end up with a Ford as he has 3 of them ... 250, 350 and 450 all of them diesels
I have had a couple of ford cars in the past and hope they build a better truck than they do cars lol

Nice looking beasty there. Never been around a 6.7 but sure liked my 7.3's I had. I wish they made em yet and put an older style Allison behind them. They would of been as near bulletproof as you could get then Imo.

Re: Picking up my new to me vechile tomorrow - 07/03/22 01:12 AM

Got her home. I drove up with the GMC train from the admiral, borrowed my buddies trailer, stuck the GMC on that and towed it home. 5 hours each way . Its already got the DEF crap taken out and is straight piped with a 5 inch pipe and is chipped. I.ll change the tuner on it though as this guy went just for power and I want something adjustable. All thats left for me to do is the tuner change, EGR and throttle body delete and a cold air intake with a decent filter. I am shooting for 20 mpg on the economy mapping and enough power to move the moon on the top power setup. One bit at a time as I have to go down to Hilton Head Island next monday for about a week and I want to take the 250 with me on that trip as I have a fuel tank to bring back home to eld.

Less than at the moment. The beast did 12.5 MPG towing that car hauler loaded with the GMC Train through the smokey mountains. My dodge will drink to the tune of 6 mpg or even less doing the same thing.

Re: Picking up my new to me vechile tomorrow - 07/04/22 03:03 AM

Hi Scuba -

Nice new vechile!

Since it is a Ford, you may consider using Ford diesel fuel conditioner. It has extra lubricants for the fuel system and cetane booster. It might help you get your 20 mpg.

In June of 2019, got my new F-350 6.7 diesel Crewcab shortbed Lariat Ultimate with many options, except no sunroof. It has 16,000 miles and the mpg is still improving. I put on a fiberglass cap which hides tools and gear, plus it controls that turbulent sailboat fuel that reduces mpg.

I have towed with it a bumper pull equipment trailer grossing about 15,000. The pulling, controlling, and easy stopping is oautstanding! I love mine. Hopefully yours is great too.
